NRL Rd 22 2024 - General Non-Warriors Thread

Looking at this week's draw it seems like quite an easy one for tipsters? That's not really what the competition wants as it's time for teams to go head-to-head for finals spots. I'm sick of living in hope.

Tonight, if this game was at Campbelltown then no one would be there and the Tigers would lose. However, Leichhardt gives them a chance over the Cowboys, who aren't great in the cold and have some key players out. Tipsters would still jump straight on the visitors though.

Friday, it should be a win for the Warriors, as the Eels are missing troops. I still want us to try and throw the ball around though, if we break out to a big lead then Mt Smart should cheer us home. What could possibly go wrong?

Redcliffe are in WA with the Roosters. There's plenty of Chooks' support over there and they'll want to see Robbo deliver. He's not a coach that can get away with just edging into finals. He needs premierships.

Saturday, despite the Titans being on a roll, with Dessie all fired up in the box, the Broncos look a class above though and can't afford to lose.

Melbourne will join Penrith by putting the brakes on the Dragons small run of wins and Cronulla, poor last week in Townsville, are back in the Shire with the Bunnies looking lost again.

Sunday, OK, tipsters: Penrith v Knights? No, just joking. The Panthers are firming as competition favourites over Melbourne. They're just so good in attack and defence. Their champion halves work together, unlike another club we know so well. We close with the Bulldogs (who I think are an outside chance at the grand final) hosting Canberra. In previous years the scatty Raiders would take this, this year's different. The Bulldogs are back!

Enjoy.

Blayze Talagi has told Parra he is off, and looks like he will be at 6 for Penrith next season. Must have been in the works for a while and why they happily let J Cleary walk. Bleak outlook for Parra with 3 out of 4 of their premiership winning junior spine last year leaving the club

Yea man, rough for Parra. How much does Arthur's sacking play a part in that?

I know Sanders had already left by the time BA was sacked, but you'd assume his son would've stuck around for a bit longer at least. What about Talagi though? Reckon he would've stayed if Arthur was still in the job?

Arthur was directly related to his old man. Talagi has a younger brother that is highly rated and Penrith were going hard at him so probably always a chance

Gees success just builds success doesnt it.

4 consec GFs and 3 titles all while losing a stack of players along the way. You'd think their window has to close soon but here they are sitting 2nd, looking ominous for a 5th consec GF at the very least, while adding Papalii and Talagi for next year. FMD what a machine.

I think I've mentioned that I'm a quiet Panthers fan now (as my second team). They're my local team and I just loved the last 15 minutes of last year's grand final. Luai is also my favourite footballer and is having a top year.

Before the Warriors existed they were my team, Super League damaged it for me, but they remain my other team - just think of the team of people they've let go that could be assembled - Burton and Crichton alone are a great start to a team - add in Leniu, Kikau, Capewell, Api, ,Staines, RCG etc...

i didnt show much loyalty growing up in the Winfield cup years.
The first team i supported was Canterbury-Bankstown as the games would be on NZ Telly in the afternoon and i thought it was a NZ team.
Then i liked Manly because of Darrell Williams followed by Balmain because of Freeman, Jack, Hanley and Sironen, then North Sydney because of Halligan, Larson,Moore, Florimo and Co, and and then Raiders because of Wiki and Pongia, plus Noa Nadruku and Mullins.
Then the Warriors came into the comp.

Yea they were my team before the Warriors came on and they’re still my second team. I first got into league watching Origin with my Dad in the late 80s and he was a NSW supporter simply because he hated Wally.

That naturally made me a NSW supporter and when Geyer took on QLD all by himself he became my favourite player and by extension, the Panthers my Winfield Cup team.

Brandy then joining the Warriors as our inaugural half was just an aligning of the stars as far as I was concerned lol

Norths we’re so cool, Mario, Jackson, Hall, Fairleigh, Soden too, my 2nd team back then

Larsen was such a good player. That back row of Larsen, Fairleigh and Moore, against Penrith of Cartwright, Geyer, and van der Voort… those were the days!!!

Geyer is the ultimate what could have been, he was a monster 90-91, but how he was treated after that Origin and then Alexander’s tragic death derailed him, and the club

I started off with the Raiders, think a few weeks later Manly beat them, and a neighbour went for them, so have been with them since, must have been mid 91. Raiders were always 2nd team for a while, then the Sharks for a bit late 90s. During the Northen Eagles debacle I was probably more of a Warriors supporter then went back home in 2003 when Manly returned

Is cool now that we see every game and there are no clashes etc, but I’m also glad that I also had the era where we only got the highlights late once a week, and it would be checking the Monday paper for the Sports results before school to see what had happened, and then later in the 90s when you’d listen to one game on the radio while eagerly awaiting the around the grounds to see how your team was going “Lex Marinos at Brookvale Oval”

Forums were awesome early 2000s but most are toxic these days, I keep coming back here coz you guys make this about the best one going

That will do me for the night. Send off for that, absolutely ridiculous, the ref didn’t even call it live

Needless to say it's ruined the game too. The big crowd feels sick as the Cowboys are up 38-14.

The Tigers just don't have the mental toughness to go all the way. It was 38-24 and they were ripping in, but Papali'i took a loose carry to the line.

Of course the ball will be knocked out if it's held by one hand and you can't reach out and score. They had a few tackles to go too.

48-30, Cowboys. Final.

Great spirit shown by Wests.

How the hell are the Cowboys in the 8? Yeah they are higher than the Warriors but damn they are dreadful defensive side. The finals wont be strong with them featuring in it lol

RE Olam send off
I've watched it a few times.
He starts below the player and jumps into him with force. Thats the only reason i can see why the bunker got involved. Versus a drive by lazy coathanger.
But ive seen a lot worse only get 10 in the bin. Being the bottom team in the league does the Tigers no favours. If it was Jahrome Luai or someone like that, it would have just been a penalty. We cant have the top teams losing players in a game.
Judiciary report should be interesting.

Is the info I’ve just read correct, that Luki didn’t have the leave the field for an HIA ? How can somebody be sent off, but the guy hit high doesn’t need an assessment ? Doesn’t add up. Last week Saab got yanked from the park and nothing happened to Jennings
