So basically Murdoch and Fox are having a tantrum like some f**king child to get the rights to Saturday back under their umbrella. Pathetic.

All this would have been null and void if Smith had of called a round table conference of all parties in the rights deal before deciding anything . . . nappy manufacturers would have been the only losers

It's great that the negotiations are discussed in here, swinging back & forth like we are actually at the table with the representatives from NRL & Fox Sports. Someone puts in an article from the Fairfax or News Ltd media & people react as though all of those stories are actually what's happening.

Hold your nerve Mr Smith.

Give these bastards nothing unless they at least match the money forked out for the AFL.

This paragraph makes absolutely no sense. Gygnell says he isn't selling anything and somehow they are claiming this translates to "appears willing to offload" wtf?

They are f**king idiots, that's what you should take from that translation of Gyngals words..

Time to Pay us the big bucks Fox. (News ltd translation; They want us to pay the them less, Less is more for the commission and the NRL)

This deal was done in secret by David Smith.....

Problem 1 ... 12 clubs not signed on past 2017 and they have to approve.

Problem 2 gambling Foxtel will be desperate for NRL games...

Hi sloth .
You're wrong .
The deal was not done in secret .
Try to keep up .
News were stalling .there were plenty of meetings with fox .
They wanted to stall, Smith said ok he'd go it alone with 9 .

But please do keep repeating the propaganda ...it's good for a laugh .

yeah, i laughed out loud reading it, it's so pathetic they can't even come up with logical bs. I'm sure next time they will seek a quote from Nine only 5 mins before filing so they can say "Nine was unavailable for comment".

It does demonstrate how desperate they are.

That article is just straight up horseshit.

For starters, it's nonsense that Channel 9 would have to sell the wholesale rights for the Saturday night game back to the NRL so that Fox Sports can show it. Fox Sports will now have to negotiate with Channel 9 otherwise what's the f**king point of Channel 9 moving to secure the wholesale rights to begin with?

Also, are News now suggesting that they are NOT negotiating for simulcast rights (like they currently have with the AFL) in the new deal?

They're only paying for five live games currently, so why would they think they can get away with offering much less money for eight live games?

Wholesale FTA rights, the games they bought can only be shown on FTA, they can't be sold off to pay TV, that defeats the purpose of the NRL doing the deal to get more games on FTA in the first place.

The article is pure fiction, the ramblings of a petulant child. Without the subtlety they are too transparent, people can see straight through it so I don't really understand the purpose of them, other than a public tantrum?

Dave Smith and the NRL just need to hold their nerve for 2 years and Murdoch will be sweating bullets by then and will offer Smith both tits to get the NRL to stay on Fox.

Last Saturday night:
Broncos V Roosters = 322,00 Foxtel viewers.
Swans V GWS = 60,000 Foxtel viewers.

Gayful does not rate on Foxtel. Rupert can go suck a donkey dick. The NRL are in the box seat here and should make News Corpse wait and wait and wait and wait.

The stupid AFL have locked themselves into a dying medium where no one watches their stupid game.

Chook.

Yeah everybody, stop talking about it.

Ultimately what gets said on an internet forum has negligible impact on real world events except for perhaps informing some people who are unable to comprehend the subtext of News Limited's coordinated propaganda.

So it would be nice if it were to all go away but I also don't really see the harm in it. As a principle though I prefer not to let bullshit go unchallenged.

For example in response to that article.

1. If you use your media to say 'we're not talking to you for 2 years' then almost straight after you use the same media to put out a story saying 'we'll negotiate if we can get X' it shows that the former statement is BS

2. As stated that paragraph --

?We don?t want to sell anything, and we?re very happy with what we?ve bought. We think it?s the best deal for Nine.?
This is significant because it shows Mr Gyngell appears willing to offload one of his four prime- time matches to defray high costs"

If it were a decent news organisation the subby would have his knuckles severely smacked.

3. But Gyngell is a shrewd operator. Saying upfront "Yes we'll give it to Fox" is bad business. It is my understanding that the NRL have to approve any on-sell back to a subscription operator. So if Fox wants it back, they will have to meet both 9 & the NRL's terms. The NRL will be acting as a gatekeeper. And Fox won't purchase the Saturday game until they're sure that they can buy the rest of the NRL rights. This forces all parties to come to terms.

4. Ultimately though it was News' desire to secure a Foxtel-10 domination of the NRL rights blocking out rival bids by refusing to partner with other F2A operators. So even Fox getting Saturday night back is only one step of the way back to their original plan.

5. I don't believe that Gyngell has ruled out selling the NRL to 10 -- if it gets him a foot in the door with the AFL because as much as he wouldn't want to split the halo he would also like to split 7's halo. The current asking price for the Saturday AFL slot was rejected -- one because it was overpriced but also I suspect on purpose simply to allow more room to negotiate later on.

6. Those News Corp $ amounts are dribble. Remember this is the same organisation that said 9 wouldn't offer more than $600m. The only amount that matters is the final amount.

Similiary on social media it's not even a polarising issue, its 95% who are with the NRL on this.

News have really shit the bed on it.

Does anyone know who owns the Sportel website?

They are running a lot of negative stories about Smith.

Its all from News journo's like Dean Ritchie, so if it isn't News owned its News staffed.

Last week he ran a piece "Kick the Warriors out of the Comp" Why? "Because they should win more!"

That's sound reasoning there.
