that's the FTA portion only... It was the biggest cause they gave all the best games to nine.

And of course Ch7 doesn't run the best rated games in each market every weekend and hasn't done so for over a decade now, and will not continue to under the new AFL Deal :sarcasm:.

STOP DRINKING THE KOOL AID.

even your posts come across like you are more worried for fox and telstra than the NRL LOL... poor Foxtel, won't the NRL go back to them, they have been such a loving and loyal girlfriend

Couldn't have said it better myself. He's so f**king scared about upsetting lord Rupert that he doesn't realize the game has changed.

There's a $50bn dollar sports empire called ESPN that doesn't mind if Tinkler's lord and master is upset - they'll see that as an opportunity. Then we'll all be able to get our League off Fetch.

Then it's curtains for Foxtel

The reaction from News ltd over this is not the reaction from a stable and rational business.

What's funnier is that the AFL may have completely f**ked themselves by aligning themselves so strongly with News, just to get a big headline and short term cash.

This is going to get very, very interesting...

David Smith is an idiot... why in the world would you do a secret deal allowing no other bidders... and pisss off a major business partner when you could have open transparent negotiations working with all parties involved..

Telstra and Fox.... are pisssed off as they should when they invested heavily...

they deserve input and chance to bid.

Mr Rothfield, can i ask how you get such a rosy glow in your cheeks so consistently??

f**k off dickhead.

Business ain't a charity! Fox and Tesltra "invest" in rugby league because it rates better than anything else.

We all know now that Fox was stalling for ACCC approval of its C10 involvement so they could field a non competitive bid and freeze out competition.

The NRL features up to 70 of Fox's most watched 100 programs most years (this year it was lower because of the cricket World Cup but it was still 49 of 100).

If Fox want to let their feelings get in the way of what is a critical product demanded by their subscriber base, then f**k THEM! They know ESPN is looking at our market and they're scared shitless.

Well put.But how would ESPN broadcast in Australia? And wouldn't a buyer have to be located in Oz?

There are some gullible bitches/ridiculously obvious plants out here tonight.

How does News Feel being anchored to the infrastructure of dying formats? How does is feel knowing that practically no one born since the Moon Landings takes your papers seriously? How do you reckon it feels knowing that Foxtel is an EPL game pass and an NRL digital distribution platform away from sinking into the mire?
To be honest, I don't think there's many people who don't see through this bullshit.

It's beautiful watching this dinosaur circling the drain. Murdoch's butt hurt when the AFL deal was announced was palpable. He's like the loser who gets dumped by his girlfriend who then hires hookers to try and make her jealous of his loser ass. It's all for show and his body language betrayed all of the bullshit words that came out of his mouth.

He can't magically turn NRL fans into AFL fans. The rest of his platform cannot compete with Netflix and other streaming services.

At the end of the day he'll suck it and swallow.

He has no other choice.

Not sure why Seven and Ten were not involved. If they were the FTA rights would of been higher you would think

There was no OFFICIAL bid, they would still have held discussions. The reality is probably that the ARLC understood the 7/10 bids would be too low without needing to see the specific number.

On top of that, there would have been value in fast tracking the deal. 9 only recently sold Ticketek s they would have had a good bit of fluid capital and the was DocBrowns post about Fox trying to drag out negotiations until they bought 10.

Maybe the ARLC simply didnt see the purpose in waiting, given it would only bring negatives...

ESPN would broadcast via any existing services interested in carrying them. So in addition to Fetch and Fox they could end up on Stan too I guess. They are the world's biggest provider of sports and have massive capital behind them, so 30 months out would be more than enough time for them to put things in place if they were successful. A $bn would be chicken feed to them, and with Hayne stoking interest in Rugby League in the US they'd probably see some benefits to having the rights back home too.

To be honest, I don't think there's many people who don't see through this bullshit.

Yeah, I don't think anyone with half a brain is buying their crap. In fact I'd guess most of the handful of people around here who do seem to agree with News Ltd probably work for them...

News Corp to demand Fox Sports Saturday NRL game from Nine
Darren Davidson The Australian,

News Corp executives will demand the National Rugby League reverse its controversial decision to strip the top-rating Saturday evening match from Fox Sports.
It is understood that the Nine Network, which secured the game as part of its $925 million TV rights deal with the NRL, has not ruled out surrendering the game — provided Fox Sports agrees to sell Nine a Saturday Australian Football League game.

Sources said Fox Sports, wholly owned by News, would refuse to even contemplate paying a premium for rights to the remaining NRL matches unless it can regain control of the prized Saturday match

It is understood Mr Gyngell is prepared to trade the Saturday match if Fox Sports is prepared to sell him a Saturday AFL fixture under the recently signed $2.508 billion record deal.

Asked if he was a seller, Mr Gyngell told The Australian: “We don’t want to sell anything, and we’re very happy with what we’ve bought. We think it’s the best deal for Nine.”
This is significant because it shows Mr Gyngell appears willing to offload one of his four prime- time matches to defray high costs, and eliminate the burden of having too many NRL matches on Nine’s primary channel, putting a squeeze on scarce inventory.

Any move to hand the Saturday match back to Fox Sports, needs Mr Gyngell to sell the wholesale rights back to the NRL,

It’s also believed Mr Gyngell has ruled out selling one of his four top picks to the Seven and Ten networks because he does not want to share the code’s sponsors with another free-to-air operator in a tough advertising market. This would boost for Fox Sports’s chances of retaining the Saturday match,

Sources say News Corp will not match the $530m figure, let alone pay $700m. “The value of the remaining rights is significantly less,” one source said, noting that a $400m price tag had even been proposed during private discussions last week.

So basically Nine sells Sat rights back to NRL who then sells them to Fox.

Ok mate makes sense, I think in the end Fox will get Super Saturday back as there is a Australian article that hints at that which I just posted.
This could mean that the negative stories might slow down from news.

That article is just straight up horseshit.

For starters, it's nonsense that Channel 9 would have to sell the wholesale rights for the Saturday night game back to the NRL so that Fox Sports can show it. Fox Sports will now have to negotiate with Channel 9 otherwise what's the f**king point of Channel 9 moving to secure the wholesale rights to begin with?

Also, are News now suggesting that they are NOT negotiating for simulcast rights (like they currently have with the AFL) in the new deal?

They're only paying for five live games currently, so why would they think they can get away with offering much less money for eight live games?

This paragraph makes absolutely no sense. Gygnell says he isn't selling anything and somehow they are claiming this translates to "appears willing to offload" wtf?

David Smith is the fool.... Nine was bidding against no one else....

how will anyone ever know what better deal could of been ?

For years Fox received the NRL rights for a bargain price due to dealing with itself at the negotiating table. This despite being the most valuable commodity for the pay tv company by a very long way.

It's time for these pricks to pay up or f**k off.

I would love to be a part of this conversation:
Fox: We will only pay you $400m over 5 years for simulcasting NRL games
NRL: Huh ... come again ... you are are only willing to pay your top rating pay TV program a third of what you paid AFL.
Fox: Yes. We are furious with you for getting top dollar with Nine and not giving in to our whims like Gallop used to do
NRL: So you want us fund your payment to the AFL? You want people who subscribe to Foxtel for the NRL to fund your payment to the AFL? Are you bloody morons?
Fox: You won't get as much money without us
NRL: Maybe not but we will easily survive without you ... you won't survive without the NRL

Companies, governments, customers and small business usually have at least 3 tenders to stop corruption and kickbacks...and getting the best deal. This is often a legal and compliance requirement.

David Smith... just said i will do this in secret...with one customer bidding against himself....
Congrats. You are now the thickest plank on this forum.

So why aren't News up in arms about this happening in the AFL?

Foxtel have invested nothing in the NRL, and stripped tens of millions of dollars out of it. The game had to pay them money back up until quite recently
