What confusion? The salary cap is locked in that is all that matters

The other stuff matters as individual players but not on the cap
So when you sign a contract you don’t care about the terms and conditions, just the salary? Yeh right! The rlpa is advising players not to sign a contract as the cba isn’t agreed and therefore the terms and conditions are not agreed.

Time for the RLPA to say what their problems are

18% increase looks pretty reasonable

Suggest it maybe time to split the mens and womens CBA agreements
Article is nearly a week old and was posted earlier. Little bit of argy bargy pre-season never hurts to keep the news cycle rolling.

They want a seat on the Commission and a say over rules etc

They will have a nice break over Christmas time and find a middle ground

Going from their quotes it seems like injury protection is the key one. Probably stuff like the rest of us: leave entitlement, rep money, contact protection, bonus pay etc as well. The trust in the arlc is gone as well so they’ll want better transparency no doubt.

Maybe you need to learn to read

Whilst the RLPA and NRL continue negotiations, the parties had extended the current amended CBA.

The above increases will be in addition to the players’ entitlements under the current amended CBA while the parties continue negotiations in good faith.

No where has either side the CBA was done, All that has happened is lower paid players get more and clubs can finalise rosters

as do you, suggest before you sign another contract! Clearly in the rlpa statement there is no ratchet agreement in place, meaning whilst the current cba is extended there is no guarantee of the t&c of the next one and players may be held to it. Otherwise why do you think there is concern expressed by them re signing contracts?

NRL players have been warned against signing new contracts by their union due to the impasse in negotiations over a collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
But Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) chair Deidre Anderson says players are potentially endangering themselves by agreeing to new deals while no CBA is in place.
Asked what the RLPA would say to contracted NRL players considering signing new contracts, Anderson told AAP: “Our advice would be to ask, ‘Where’s the detail for you to (sign)?’
“None of the (CBA) detail has been presented from the NRL. All we have is the salary-cap amount.
“A young player is going to get very excited when he sees a few zeros.
“If he gets injured part way through, the money that should have been applied to support him medically may not be there and he could be left out on his own.”

Vlandys; deal is done, salary cap is set
players: hold my beer!

Rugby league players have started to boycott the NRL’s 2023 promotional campaign as the standoff over the new collective bargaining agreement escalates.
On Monday the Cronulla Sharks refused to attend an official photoshoot at Pointsbet Stadium.
And later on Monday evening, the St George Illawarra Dragons made it known that they would not be attending a media opportunity scheduled on Tuesday morning.

The players are protesting against the way the NRL is handling its CBA negotiations, believing a lack of respect is being shown to the game’s talent.
Under the proposed CBA offer, the NRL has put $1.347 billion in total player payments on the table. That is up from $980 million in the previous CBA. But the players also say they want another two per cent pay increase - on top of what already has been offered- and a revenue share deal, even though they insist the revolt is not about money.

North Queensland Cowboys halfback Chad Townsend said the players also wanted a well-funded Past Players Program and more money for the Injury Hardship Fund.

“(We also want) funding for a Medical Support Fund, agreement rights on our employment conditions, match fees outside the cap, and a first-ever CBA for women. Their salary cap announcement doesn’t resolve any of that but it’s their way of hindering our wishes,” Townsend said.

Melbourne Storm co-captain Christian Welch - who is part the RLPA leadership group - said last week that the players did not want to disrupt the game.

An NRL spokesman said the league was trying to solve the problem ahead of the season proper.

“We are aware of some players not participating in today’s club photo sessions with NRL staff,” an NRL spokesman said.

“We are in ongoing discussions with the RLPA regarding these and other issues and look forward to an exciting 2023 season for our fans.”

Vlandys: ok yes we tried to fiddle you out of money by understating our revenue, and ok yes we out a,salary cap announcement without letting you know, but what do you mean you don’t trust us?

The escalation comes after more than a year of negotiations over the new collective bargaining agreement, with relationships between the two sides turning toxic.

The Rugby League Players Association was left seething in December, when the NRL announced the new salary cap for 2023 without the blessing of the players.

Speaking on SEN last week, RLPA board member and Melbourne Storm forward Christian Welch labelled the process 'really frustrating'

"Fourteen months ago, we tried getting the ball rolling on financial information and trying to get requests to the NRL," he said.

"There's been a real lack of trust between the two parties which has been really disappointing because we're really not close to an agreement at all."

He went on to say that he didn't believe the NRL were taking the RLPA seriously.

"We're not asking for anything unreasonable, which has been really frustrating.

"We just want to get on with our jobs and play footy."

It’s a game of bluff that only whiney old English turds get any joy from.

I don't know where the middle ground is. Take the match fees for Finals games.

1. Doesn't it allow better teams to keep good players.

2. If it does happen, Ticket prices rise and fans get shafted

Irrespective of who you side with, objectively this is a bad look for the game. Same with NBA lock outs etc.

Hopefully it gets resolved before start of the season.

Feels like a nothing story and one side will cave hours before kick off.
Players can’t afford not to be paid, the NRL needs games on tv, the union, as unions do, have their hand out making all the noise

Nearly three years ago, the NRL was close to folding and clubs on deaths door because the game couldn’t make their contract with 9/Fox. Are the Union that stupid that they want to force a lockouts so the hand that feeds them potentially goes into a similar senerio to 2020?

Players have their rights to be heard but lockouts are going to hurt most players who have mortgages, loans, school fees and fans more. A small number of players won’t feel the financial strain but the majority will.

This union trend post covid in all areas of society is a concern

You arrive at a point you dont trust catching a train to work if your a commuter

I can a similar effect on crowds if any such action causes a match to be cancelled or rescheduled
