NRLW is a loss leading investment for arlc, it’s not about making money per se as it is getting girls and women playing the game and the massive spin off in investment opportunities that brings for the lower levels of the game. Not to mention more females interested in RL more viewers for both nrl and nrlw. I dont buy this “they don’t bring in much revenue“argument, thats very simplistic and fails to take into account all the funding that’s now flowing to things like stadiums, CofE ‘s and grassroots clubs to improve female participation. not to mention sponsors who want a piece of the inclusivity pie.

So only Males watch NRL then is what you are implying and thus the Women's game shouldn't be receiving their fair share of the revenue generated

An 800 k Cap is certainly not that especially when the NRLW have to juggle their footy commitments around full time jobs and family commitments.
Which bit mentioned only makes watching nrl? Fact is the women’s game is only expanding to ensure it keeps up with the aflw. The media are told to hype it up… good on the women for playing and having a go. But I’m not going to be shattered when the nrlw sharks lose a game like I am when the men do.

In fact I’m calling it… it’s boring as batshit to me and I can’t get into it, even origin.

Atleast you guys have a team, Try getting into it with no interest in any side in the comp

Exactly. Sharks south’s were pioneers of the woman’s game and were ignored from the outset. Now it suits the nrl and they sharks get a shot. Please.

How the NRLW is delivered to the public is another problem that I see each time it’s on, a lot of the narrative revolves around comments like “the game is just as exciting as the men” or “they play hard and hit hard” or “the speed of the woman’s game is akin to first grade”…. All of which are different ways of saying “hey for woman playing this is pretty good right?”

It gets to levels that to me seem fake. Ex first grade players in commentary doing their best as it’s in their contract. I honestly think they do not truely give a shit. But hey maybe it’s just me.

Not their fault the length of the season though as they would love to play each team twice and a longer comp.

They also play their state based Women's comp prior to NRLW and being very much part time players they have to juggle footy commitments around their jobs and other commitments since previously the min wage was 8 k raised to 10 k for the 2 2022 comps.

I don't buy this NRL generates the revenue and NRLW doesn't as do only males attend NRL matches and watch NRL matches.
Lmao that’s a stupid argument

women go to men’s nrl games to watch the men

they were doing it since 1908

I'm sure many ex first graders don't care about first grade NRL either. There's 26 rounds, and if not for their broadcasting contracts, how many would even bother watching the game. Certainly Joey, Corey Parker and Anasta would be on the lines any given Friday / Saturday.

Wrong. While the sharks did the media thing and did have a hnwp side from the start. Souths did nothing except steal a local clubs team and ruined that. Illawarra and to some extent the Newcastle area were much more pioneers and innovators of the female game.

Lets not forget, they were not ignored from the outset, The sharks and to a much great extent souths put in bids for the initial NRLW competition that were amateurish and distinctly unprofessional. Neither team were interested in spending a cent, expected the NRL to pay for everything and did not buy into the spread of talent. They were not ignored they were just well behind the reality of what vision the NRL had for the NRLW.

You continue to be very anti-Souths

Who were HNWP Minor Premiers, had previously won two WRL premierships and I hear that have a full women junior league a new NRLW CoE and strong womens tag structure

But it was ok to promote Easts who had no structure who have no pressence

Sorry, but some of your arguments are relative hogwash. In all professions that have an award, you get paid a wage which is often based on things like hours worked per week. Hence If I work 50 hours a week, but someone else only works 25 hours per week, I wind up earning more. That is not necessarily disciminatory if the difference in hours is a result of say me being full time, and the other employee being part time.

Unless their is a massive increase in revenue, NRLW player payments won't be matching those of the NRL whilst they play less games, and have a shorter competition. Do you seriously think the NRL players will sacrifice any future salary increase so thet revenue brought in by their competition is used to fund the NRLW? Hence it is going to need the NRLW competition to increase its revenue base,m and thet won't be something that will happen in the short term.

Oh and as to NRLW players having toi balance their league committments around other jobs? Well welcome to the world that NRL players had prior to the SL War, and which many other parts of the NRL community (e.g. some referees and touch judges) still do to this day. I'm not unsympathetic but to expect to go to instant parity in 1 year is unrealistic.

Just weeks after announcing a new salary cap, drama has engulfed the NRL regarding its ongoing dispute with the Rugby League Players’ Association.

Questions for the RLPA still remain unanswered after it sent out an explosive email to its members over the salary cap.

In an email sent to players on Wednesday, the RLPA said the salary cap announcement had “resulted in great confusion and chaos” among NRL clubs, with the governing body yet to communicate how the salary cap changes were to be implemented.

The email also reinforced that the NRL was irresponsible in announcing the 2023 salary cap before it was agreed to by the players.

Last month, the NRL announced a 25 per cent increase on the 2023 salary cap, set at $12.1 million, up from $9.6 million.

The news was met with surprise by the RLPA, which labelled the NRL “disrespectful” for publicly revealing the salary cap before players had the chance to approve the latest proposal.

“For a governing body to set its own salary cap disrespects the entire player representation movement and the importance of collective bargaining,” RLPA chair Dr Deidre Anderson said in a statement at the time.

“Today’s announcement goes against negotiating in good faith and only damages the trust between the players and the governing body.”

What confusion? The salary cap is locked in that is all that matters

The other stuff matters as individual players but not on the cap

Time for the RLPA to say what their problems are

18% increase looks pretty reasonable

Suggest it maybe time to split the mens and womens CBA agreements
