GPS is probably a minor part of it, its about all player information. The biggie though is in control of the funds. The players want total control, the NRl want to keep their hands on the reigns. Thats the big hold up imo.

What is the issue with the player data?

The NRL’s position on the collection and storage of player data (both medical and otherwise) doesn’t comply with privacy laws. They are attempting to assert ownership over player data and use or sell it without the informed consent of the player.

By failing to responsibly protect personal data and interests, this becomes just another demonstration of significant overreach and is an attempted abuse of power.

And when the money gets frittered away the players will be striking for a top up In the future

nrl oversight is reasonable

if the players were responsible with their money in the first place they wouldn’t need all these extra funds they would cover it themselves like the rest of Australia do or gasp get Medicare

Thats your opinion, the players opinion is 'our money our control of it'. I wouldn't want my company telling me what I can and cant do with my money would you?

Neither my company or yours would be giving us this extra money

they would expect us to be responsible adults

My company dont expect anything of me when it comes to how I use my money, good job lol
They certainly dont tell me what I can and cant do with it or how much of it I can spend in what areas of my life. This is about NRL maintainign control over players whilst wanting total control over themselves. Check out the BS clause about them being able to rip up the CBA if they f**k up and lose money!

When players come to sue the game after getting too many head knocks

It is the NRL not the RLPA that have to prove what was done to prevent it. Simply saying we gave the players $xm won't cut it.

They will need to say what that was spent on

As any work place does with Petty Cash

So they are forced to wear GPS devices?

I find that very unlikely

Again though

1 isn't the data for the clubs to monitor how a player is tracking as opposed to the player owning it?

2- what purpose is it to sell?

It seems to be jumping at shadows

Jamie Buhrer said it's all medical data. You guys just want to make it about gps data because you want to oppose the players, but can't argue that the nrl should own their medical data.

A lot of the things on their list are things that are relatively minor but made a fuss out of.

Guys, we have a NRL player here. You must be one right to know what is or isn't minor for them right?

If they are so minor by the way, why isn't the NRL willing to agree to what they want?

This is the thing that’s being conveniently overlooked - this isn’t ‘their money’ as in salary, this is money being paid into additional funds for medical/wellbeing support - something that very rarely is paid for by employers, so of course the NRL want to be around the table looking at how they is spent, otherwise the RLPA could just decide to dish it out as additional payments to everyone. I am lucky that my workplace do pay for private medical cover, but it all has to be managed through my works Occ Health department first - it’s not just free reign, and that’s when there is the control of it being through an insurance provider - the RLPA basically want the NRL to just give them a lump some each year and they be free to do as they please. It’s ridiculous.

What's the bet that, if the NRL acquiesced, Newton would suddenly be getting a pay rise. He's always been a shonky bloke. Classic pig at the trough union leader.

Correct.

I can't just go to my employer and get cash to do work related training.

It is either invoiced to the company. Or I paid and it gets reimbursed.

I see this as being similar, If nothing is dodgy then the NRL being at that table makes no difference.

So again what use is medical data to a 3rd party? It is tin foil hat garbage

Makes sense for clubs and NRL to have it, Not sure it is of interest to anyway how many surgeries x player has had

Out of those 8 things on their list how many actually refer to the day to day conditions? So that is minor

As for why they haven't just been accepted, As I said previously.

Lets use someone who is retiring Josh Hodgson,

How do the NRL protect themselves from him potentially suing them for injuries caused by the game,

1- If they don't see medical data to know what post career operations are needed?

2- Know they are actually done at this time?

6 months ago the players argued the current policy was.

The NRL has clearly agreed, come to the party but want to see how it is spent, So the goal posts get pushed back. Who is to say they Approve it and the posts get moved further again.

These things are supposed to meet in the middle

$ont know how true this is, but read that there was some agreement/discussion that a mediator would replace each side of the argument. Then Newton wouldn’t do it, seems he want’s confrontation despite his so called media releases.

That’s how unions work.

So you'd grant your employer ownership of your medical data, and the ability to sell it to anyone without notifying you? And if not, why do you expect nrl players to do something you are unwilling to?
