People need to think for a bit vlandys and abdo aren’t pocketing any money saved

their job is administer for the future of the sport

the current playing group have benefited hugely under the current regime and if they stop distracting them in really minor points and get the cba done they will enjoy further huge wage increases as the new tv deal is done

another team will also be added providing jobs for another 35 professional footballers and 100 spots for juniors

Pvl has done more for the players than Newton has
Also consider the players are the only stakeholders who have no influence on their employment. More money to clubs and the two state leagues keeps Vlandys and Abdo in a job.
If you’re looking for cynical arguments about why they might be trying to short change the players To keep more money “in the game”.

Newton is planning a career in politics with the ALP. He's using the players to build his street cred with the unions.
This is exactly where my head is at - he’s making a big deal out of relatively minor things, to bolster his credentials as a Unionist.
Overall, the players have got a fantastic deal, the best ever for NRL players, by a long shot, and far better than any ‘normal’ job, with very little risk to their employment - they’re certainly not being exploited or being hard done to, yet here we are. The tone and language used by Newton and the RLPA would suggest the NRL are trying to lowball and exploit vulnerable workers - it’s ridiculous.

vlandys took nswrl to court, twice, to try and influence control over nswrl by getting friendlies on the board. He’s trying to do the same thing to players by wanting to control the rlpa and the players funds. I didn’t see much fight in him when the clubs had the begging bowl out for an extra $3mill a year in grants lol.

Doesn’t sound like he’s trying to appease the nswrl then does it lol

He obviously thought the fight to get control of the board was worth the risk of losing, he’s probably so arrogant he never thought he’d lose, twice!

I agree, it does sound like that. I've been a union member for over 30 years, and I have rarely heard anyone leading negotitions for a union carry on like this.

p.s.

Before anyone questions my credentials, we staged a walk out from our work place refusing to work over time due to rumours our employer was going to reneg on previously agreed wage rises for our entire industry. It had its effect as our employed confirmed the wage rises were never in jeopardy the next day.

Yep, he goes on the program to clear the air and refuses to answer questions.

Vossy had a good point of the 100 items, how many do they need to win to get it ended
Most of them will just legal wording corrections

Happens every time a legal entity reviews a contract. Even a final version

A claim that SOO is 35% of all revenue

So what is 40% of actual NRL remaining revenue

With the cap is actually $9.1 mil x 17 or $155 mil for NRL players if thats 40% then revenue non SOO is $386 mil

Clint really is pulling out all the stops here since the arlc haven’t budged
Another action where the players don’t sacrifice anything…. What heroes… Really putting themselves out on the line for the honest working man…. Dickheads
It’s also entirely pointless, covering the NRL logo actually does zero damage, anywhere - covering the NRL logo doesn’t cause any issue, for anyone.

Carayannis and Hooper pointed out that the players are already in breach of their contracts.

“They are in breach of their contract,” Carayannis said.

“They are in breach of the broadcast agreement with Fox Sports and Channel 9,” Hooper added.

“The broadcasters are holding their nerve and sticking solid behind the NRL because they believe in the governing body.

“They think Clint is muckraking for the sake of his own self importance.

This could end very quickly if 9 or Fox decide they want it to. Currently they’re getting clicks to their websites or NRL shows filled with drama. Once they get board of it, they’ll make noise that the players are breaching their contracts by not speaking to media, and say they’ll stop paying the NRL in full. Things will change quickly

Employees have legal rights to go on strike. They can only be stopped the salary for the time they are on strike. Happened at our uni recently and the uni quickly backtracked and upped the offer by 6%. Not bad for cost of one days salary!
