NRL Touch

I spoke to an organiser and he mentioned that the play the ball and being able to kick the ball was a big attraction for TRL. Its now basically dominating south east Qld with Tag and modern day touch losing participants. Basically a reinventing of the wheel in the 'touch' scenario is happening.

Do they allow a marker in TRL? I think that would be good.
I like the play they do in touch around the play the ball where they both stay alive, but it should be a bit more difficult than it is which would be the case if there was a marker.

Reading the rules that play is not allowed in TRL

That's fine! It brings into play a crafty dummy half and subtle directional play. All having an impact in attack. That's why the play-the-ball is so crucial and adds to the enjoyment of a game. (original touch that is) And that's why TRL is gaining momentum.

Lol. I suggest the significantly popular movement happening for TRL in southern Qld backs that attractiveness up!
Yes there are people who like the rule, I've never denied that. There is also a large number that are happy with the current rule. Touch Football's participation numbers show this!

Because it is effectively a mark. I really dislike that rule, to me to score you should have to ground the ball in all situations.

A "mark" isnt a thing except in the language of AFL. Its just a catch. I'd rather call it the bomb rule.
In terms of the rule itself I would say they are just trying to replicate a bomb in circumstances where it is probably almost impossible to take the catch plus get it down without being touched, and adding to that 9 times out of 10 if they catch the ball like that in an NRL game they do get it down.

Think it's called just 'Touch' nowadays? Not 'Touch football.' Would suggest the act or rule of playing the ball with the foot more aptly reflected the name of touch football. (Just a thought & observation )

The name football does not come from the play the ball!

Lol . Foot and ball do go together . So I suggest that the term footy emanated somewhat from the consistent feature of foot on ball that goes with the fundamental play the ball rule. Understand kicking in play is relevant too. A valid connection/ observation.

The word football is associated with a lot of sports, all the sports it is associated with developed from soccer, the original football!

The term football or footy is now used to refer to the most popular of the sports that evolved from soccer in a particular area.

In NSW football is Rugby League

In Vic football is AFL

In the USA football is American football

In most part of the world football is soccer
