I mean, what can we realistically do? Jesse couldn't be any more Newcastle of all our players, born here, she was the club's first NRLW signing when she was only 14 years old. I can't imagine we haven't tried seriously to keep her, we've probably offered her the keys to the city and then some, we're not THAT stupid - we know she will probably go down as the best halfback to play women's rugby league.
I like the NRLW, but I really only watch our games due to time constraints. I'm not going to bother with it any more if we lose our home-grown generational player and I definitely won't be the only one. Interest will absolutely plummet, not just in our team, but in the entire competition if one of the competition heavyweights is just going to get ridiculously stronger. It'd be like Joey going to the Broncos in the late 90s/early 00s or if Cam Smith had joined the Roosters along with Cronk.
A lot of the NRLW media pundits just hand-wave this away as no big deal but they are kidding themselves (and probably Rooster/Sydney or Broncos/QLD fans) - they are absolutely rusted on fans of the game who will watch it no matter what, they aren't thinking of it in the context of a competition that needs to grow and attract fans.
