Seeing big Willie back to his best in a Blues jersey would be awesome.

Say what you want about him personally but on his day he is one of the countries most damaging forwards.

He is doing well, but he isnt plaything the way Id like him to play. Id rather see Mason running straight into blokes, straight into the defence line and pretty much just hurting blokes. He is the kind of guy to be used to intimidate the defence. At the moment he is running at angles, throwing a short pass here or there, popping up off loads, which is all good and fine, but those skills arent Masons strength.

Based on what I saw last night I think Gallen needs to be in the side

He's tough, strong and passionate plus he hates and is hated by Qlders

11. Creagh
12. Gallen
13. Lewis (c)

14. Watmough (Probably would have the most impact off the bench out of the 4)

15. Someone who can play both Backrow and Frontrow (Learoyd Lahrs? Waterhouse?)

Kade Snowden must be very close to the 17 too...

NSW should pick a pack like this:

8 - prop
9 - Ennis
10 - prop
11 - Watmough
12 - Stewart
13 - O'Donnell

14 - utility forward (Lewis, Bird or Young depending on form)
15 - linebreaking backrower (Gallen, Creagh, or Minichiello depending on form)
16 - backrow/prop (Mason, Laffranchi or Learoyd-Lahrs depending on form)
17 - prop

In those three questionable positions, Lewis, Gallen and Mason have to be the picks at the moment. The props are completely up in the air though, in my opinion. Galloway and Tolman are untested, Douglas and Snowden are toilers but we don't know if they are Origin standard. White, Cross, Kite and Perry have never impressed at Origin level yet. Poore has been pretty terrible this year. I guess that leaves Weyman as the only definite.

Which First Grade sides won't he make?

I hardly knew who he was when i wrote that and on top of that, most Penrith fans were saying he was a cat and didn't play with much effort in 09. However, my opinion him has certainly changed on him over the past 3 weeks though.

Watching more and more footy this year, i think selections are becoming easier...

1. Dugan
2. Morris
3. Cooper (If Morris is injured)
4. Jennings
5. Hayne
6. Still undecided but honestly im leaning more towards Sutton
7. Pearce
8. Weyman
9. Farah
10. Toleman
11. Waterhouse
12. Creagh
13. Lewis

14. Bailey/Douglas/Hunt/Snowden
15. Bailey/Douglas/Hunt/Snowden
16. Watmough
17. Gallen

18. Laffranchi
19. Heighington
20. Galloway
21. TLL

If JMoz is out then it is just too tempting on that left edge to have the Creagh-Cooper-Morris Combo....If Hornby carves up there imagine what Pearce would do on that edge....

Similar goes on the right edge with Waterhouse and Jennings...

Lewis deserves his sport at lock, and probably at captain also. He is the most consistant in the bunch, he can adapt to any condidtion and has the talent to play all over the park.

Sutton i feel will compliment Pearce and out of all the other 5/8's has prob been the most consistent in recent times.

Tolman and Weyman are easily the two best fromt rowers....the rest of the bunch it should come down to consistent form this year

Hayne is positionally a poor FB, and cant defend

Chuck Dugan in there!!!!

Other than being a bit light on front rowers and a little inexperience in the halves i think that is a better team that the Maroons can put together!

Well there's a lesson learnt right there, if you don't know anything about a player you should'nt comment ;-)

most Penrith fans were saying he was a cat and didn't play with much effort in 09.

Who said that? I don't think any Penrith fans have questioned his work ethic and commitment, more his effectiveness in FG, which has improved greatly this season

Who do you think should be written off as not being up for Origin selection:

I'm thinking:

- Nathan Hindmarsh (just doesn't offer anything in attack)
- Andrew Ryan (too old, no impact)
- Steve Simpson (likewise)
- Kurt Gidley (if he can't make FB, he shouldn't be there...and he is nowhere near Hayne or Dugan or Carney)
- Josh Perry (fat, soft and slow)
- Brett White (too soft for State of Origin)
- Brent Kite (too soft for State of Origin)
- Ben Cross (injury prone and not mobile enough)
- Braith Anasta (doesn't have the Origin x-factor)
- Terry Campese (likewise)
- Steve Turner (too small, dominated by QLD backs)
- Anthony Quinn (likewise)
- Jason Ryles (too old)
- Luke Bailey (too old)

As for props, well, I'd rather not see Dane Tilse, Jason King or Bryce Gibbs selected either, they are decent club players but not rep props. Douglas, Snowden, Hunt, Poore, Galloway, Grant, Weyman and Tolman should be the candidates for the front row IMO.

Galloway and Lawrence have been underwhelming this year and don't deserve to be selected. The only Tigers player who has warranted an origin position is Lote Tuqiri, he should be one of the first picked for QLD.

f**k, Pearce out, Mullen playing like a busted arse......Kimmorley may well be the best choice.

Sad day for NSW.

With our selectors 5-0 is all I see.

Assuming that Anthony Watmough and Paul Gallen are picked in the ANZAC Test:

City

8. Keith Galloway
9. Robbie Farah
10. Tim Grant
11. Mark Minichiello
12. Trent Waterhouse
13. Luke O’Donnell

14. Luke Lewis
15. Ryan Hoffman
16. Luke Stuart (old, yes, but a late peak in his career)
17. Bryce Gibbs/Jason King (for lack of better options)

Country

8. Michael Weyman
9. Michael Ennis
10. Luke Douglas
11. Anthony Tupou/Corey Paterson (depending on form + fitness at the time)
12. Anthony Laffranchi
13. Dean Young

14. Greg Bird
15. Ben Creagh
16. Aiden Tolman
17. Kade Snowden

Willie Mason, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Justin Poore, Michael Henderson and Dan Hunt are all very unlucky to miss out on this team, and if they were City eligible, they would probably displace Stuart or Gibbs/King.

Plenty of youth, no need to pick dead end players like Kite, White, Perry, Cross, Bailey, Ryles, Simpson, Hindmarsh, Ryan, etc - who are all essentially steps backward, or players like Sims, Tilse, etc who just wouldn't cut it IMO. It is best to give these players of the future a chance to shine and show their credentials as potential Origin stars for the following seasons.
