I have settled on my origin team. I would pick the best players available and that would include Fifita for game 1 and 3. My side would be

1 Teddy
2 Addo Carr
3 Mitchell
4 Tom Turbo
5 Roberts
6 Maloney (C)
7 Cleary
13 DeBelin
12 Frizell
11 Sims
10 Fifita
9 Cook
8 Klemmer

14 Gutherson (utility back)
15 Campbell-Gillard
16 Vaughn
17 Pangai Junior

Awesome side. I'd be happy with that.

I know there's nothing we can do about it but I can really just see us being left with a broken Frizell and DeBelin by the end of Origin. They are kamakaze types players. No reason why it won't be the same for Sims and Vaughan.

It's great they will get the recognition, but it's a bit hard to sit here and know what's coming. This will be a very physical series like all others. I wouldn't necessarily argue Frizell has come back a better player since Origin either so not sold on that debate. Maybe just more expensive.

Its fascinating reading these SOO team lists. I'm sure people forget that pissession usually evens out at 50%, so not only do we need attacking players they need to defend as well. Some of the listed backlines are down right scary with tackle efficiencies in the 60% range.
JAC - 66%
Cotric - 64%
Roberts - 80%
Mitchell - 80%
Tedesco - 82%
So matching up say JAC and Mitchell on one side and Cotric and Roberts on the other it basically equates to 1 in every 4 tackles missed from the centre wing combinations then back up with the fullback who basicalky misses 1 in every 5, this is just inviting QLD to score at will. Hunt and Co will have a field day.

For comparison Nighty's tackle efficiency is at 84% and Aitken af 86%

Speed can he blinding at times.

Add to that Maloney with the most missed tackles of any player.
Tedesco with the 2nd most errors and 2nd most handling errors. Cook also is the 3rd most ineffective tackler.

As I said scary.

Correct mate.

I neglected to mention the colours but meant to say the stripe pattern was like the Saints old jersey.

Our old Kogarah Maro Bros league jersey was the same but in red & White.

Yeah they’ve changed colours now, my sons playing for Taren Point we wear the correct colours of red and white with a red V, it does have a bloody Sharks logo on the right hand side, but you can’t have everything. Marist is still red and white.

? ? ? Could not find Tariqe Simms name on list - however he is my 1st choice 2nd rower to partner Tyson Frizell , with Angus Chricton as the reserve forward , along with Klemner and Boyd Cordner .
No Woods or Tedesco as neither deserve a spot . This team is full of some real hard heads that will tame the Q.L.D pack and win the series .

Chrichton AND Cordner on the bench is a monumental failure Gareth. We don’t need a dedicated edge backrower on the bench, let alone 2. We need a middle who has experience covering the edge.

Yes , I see your point , I was thinking with Chricton more so for his toughness although totally unproven at this level . Whereas Cordner , upon reflection does not deserve a spot and could be replaced by other ' edge ' 2nd rowers .

BGB"s ............... How the hell can Taren Point ( Cronulla / Sutherland based ) have a red V with a Sharks logo?

Its sacrilege!
A Sharks logo on a toilet is a kick in the guts for the original maker, Thomas Crapper, let alone a Dragons jumper.
The world is caving in, I'm sure of it.

I was picking my team and couldn't find Sims either, so I stopped picking my team.

That is why I picked Pangai on my bench.

4 weeks ago on this thread, I said that wouldn't pick Cordner. Most people, including myself, thought he was a certainty. Now so called experts and other posters are of the opinion that Cordner doesn't deserve to be there, or there are others, such as Sims deserve to be there more and is more suited to origin.

Pangai isn’t anywhere near origin IMO.

For mine, the selection of a ‘utility back’ is dumb. You don’t see QLD making these sort of selections. Every bench player needs a strategy, whether it’s a ‘triangle player’ (similar to what Mann is doing for us this year), a hooker rotation or a backrow rotation. One of these guys should be able to play in the backs but they need to add value to the forward rotation. 8 interchanges is easy to manage with 4 benchies.

Qld pick a back on their bench. They have been picking Cronk, Cherry and Morgan now for years. Often that player gets very little game time.

I believe that missed tackles are those attempted and missed. On many occasions, out of position players aren't even attempt a tackle so this would not count as a missed tackle.

They pick a back on the bench with purpose.

When it was Cronk, it was to prep him to take over from Lockyer. He’d get 20mins plus of game time, coming on for a lock and playing as first receiver.

DCE was the same plan until they realised he was a plodder at that level. Morgan gets plenty of game time as an extra playmaker (replacing a lock). Not sure what games you are watching.

The difference is QLD had a plan for those players. They played in the backrow and as an extra ball player, more or less what Mann is doing for us this year. NSW have had 'utilities' but they were as useful as Mann was last year, pretty much pointless unless there was an injury.

I obviously think Pangai is ready for origin.
