I'd put my money on the bears ;-)
You can thank your lucky starts that you didn't put your house on the Bears....

Both the Bulldogs Junior Representative teams have managed big wins this afternoon at the Terry Lamb Complex.

The Bulldogs Harold Matthews side made it two-from-two in 2009 with a 54 point thrashing, defeating North Sydney 62-8.

After narrowly going down last weekend 16-20 against Newtown, the Bulldogs SG Ball side turned it around this afternoon with a damaging 62-10 victory against the Bears.

Melbourne Storm continue good formMonday, 23rd February 2009
It could have been dismissed as beginner's luck in Round 1 but the Melbourne Storm have well and truly rocked the SG Ball Cup competition after a consecutive upset victory at the weekend.

The SG Ball Cup (Under-18) newcomers stunned heavyweights Canberra 32-22 in Melbourne at the weekend backing up from an 18-14 win against Newcastle in their competition debut in Round 1.

The Storm join fellow SG Ball Cup debutants the Newtown Jets in enjoying a dream start to the NSWRL Junior Representative season after two rounds of action.

The Jets were 44-22 winners over Western Suburbs at the weekend, continuing their good early season form which saw them down the Bulldogs 20-16 in the opening round.

Meanwhile, the Gold Coast Titans have notched their maiden victory in the Harold Matthews Cup (Under-16) competition by smashing St George 38-8 in Tugun.

NSWRL Academy's Coaching and Development Manager Martin Meredith said the upsets were great news for the competitions.

"Melbourne's great form in their first season of SG Ball Cup competition is an example of Rugby League's ability to build and strengthen its playing base outside of traditional breeding grounds of NSW and Queensland," Meredith said.

"Similarly, the Gold Coast Titans Harold Matthews Cup side are competing in the competition for the first time and have hit the ground running.

"It all bodes well for Rugby League because the stronger these competitions are now, the stronger our elite senior competitions like the NRL will be in years to come."

The Storm SG Ball Cup team will look to continue their giant-killing run this weekend when they travel to the Gold Coast to take on the Titans in Round 3 of the NSWRL Junior Representative season.

Fellow Forumers,
I would love to know your thoughts on who are the players to watch in this years Junior Representative Season (Harold Matts & SG Ball)...

If possible please give the following info.
For eg.
Name: Jacob Gagan
Team: Parramatta Eels
Age: Harold Matthews (16)
Position: Fullback

And anything else you would like to add.

I dunno if you have seen this guy play but he is an absolute star.

Australian Schoolboys 15s Merit Centre 2008
Parramatta Eels Harold Matthews Wing (15yr old) 2008
NSW State of Origin Under 16s Wing 2008

Parramatta Eels Harold Matthews Fullback 2009

This guy is a player to definately watch.
Very explosive, carved Penrith up on his own last Saturday.

Another one to watch and funnily enough another fullback

Name: David Nofalouma
Team: Western Suburbs
Age: 16 HM
Position: fullback

This kid was amazing, was the difference with his strength, pace and elusiveness against Gold coast scoring a great try in round 1 Probably why he was in team of the week, in the junior rep mag then again outstanding with a two try performance against Easts in round 2.

ROUND 2 COACH REPORTS - HAROLD MATTHEWS CUP & SG BALL
12.20pm, Tuesday 24 February 2009

Read on to see what Pirtek Parramatta Eels District Reps coaches Chris Bradbury and Mick Lewis thought of their sides’ big weekend wins over arch rivals Penrith at CUA Stadium.

Harold Matthews Cup
Pirtek Parramatta Eels 28, Penrith 6

Forward play was a highlight of the opening stanza of the Eels Harold Matthews Cup clash with Penrith, with strong running from Sione Hehepoto and Josh Neale putting Parramatta on the front foot early.
But our good work was undone by two penalties back to back to the Panthers, which allowed them to get good field position. After a determined charge at the line from their big front rower Tai Tuivasa, Parramatta’s markers were not able to stop Nelson Tuia diving over from dummy half on the next play. With the extras added, Penrith led 6 nil.
To the boys credit they responded quickly with well executed back line play allowing fullback Jacob Gagan to cross for our first points of the match. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful however we now trailed by just two points at 6-4.
On the back of a great kick chase Gagan soon had his second try, which came after we forced Penrith to ground the ball in goal. From the drop out we were able to build pressure, which resulted in Gagan going over again. Josh Neale added the extras, putting the visitors out to a 10-6 lead.
Both sides put together some very good passages of play to finish the half, yet it wasn’t until the second half that we truly stamped our authority on the game.
After some strong play from both sides, which resulted in a few handling errors, we managed to control possession and soon enough we were in again. Forward Sione Hehepoto picked up a loose pass and crashed over for our third try. From there we continued to build pressure, eventually running out winners 28 - 6.

SG Ball
Pirtek Parramatta Eels 30, Penrith Nil

Like most matches between Parramatta and Penrith, our SG Ball clash was a bruising one.
First points came fairly early on, when good lead up work saw half Josh Murray put big Rodney Moefaauo over with a nice short pass to score for a 4-nil lead.
Penrith looked like they were going to level through winger Tori Willie, but great cover from Jaydin Tavita and Chris Ulugia prevented Willie from touching down.
Parramatta extended their lead to 10-0 through a try to Jason Wehbe, the five eighth scoring and converting from beside the posts.
Willie again looked certain to score shortly after the Wehbe try, but once again Ulugia was on the spot to cut the winger down with some great cover defence.
We then lost second rower Pat O’Hanlon to the sin bin for ruck infringement, and two sets of six later the Panthers followed suit when big Kilifi Tia-Kilifi was banished to the bin as well for the same infringement.
Right on half time Ulugia pounced on a Wehbe kick in what looked like a try, but the game officials ruled that the ball was not grounded correctly and the half time score stayed at 10-nil to the Eels.
The second half was played in mostly heavy rain, and Parramatta through Josh Tuitupou extended the lead when he crossed to make it 14-0.
Alan Eisenhuth then took off on an 80 metre dash for the Panthers, and looked certain to score until he was run down and tackled by Wehbe just short of the line.
Replacement winger for Parramatta Thomas Vandermade out leaped Eisenhuth to grab a well weighted kick from Josh Murray to score in the corner, and in heavy conditions Tavita kicked the conversion to give Parra a lead of 20-0
Tries to Tuitupou and O’Hanlon finished off the scoring, the 30-0 victory the Eels most solid win over their arch rivals in many years.

S.G. Ball

Souths 24
Wests 12

(H/T Souths 10-0)

Not a pretty game, some soft tries and alot of dropped ball, but I'm sure the Bunnies will be happy to take the "W".

I think Wests won the Matt's 40 something to 20 somthing.
