So what, surely making the finals is an achievement in itself??? Surely making the finals is good for sponsorships and exposure to legitimate TPA's????? We haven't made the finals in 8 years even just scraping in is something the club can hang it's hat on and help to build for the future. it was a stupid short sighted decision based on quick money.

No, it was a decision based on a committment made in 2014 and invoked in 2017 in order to maximise the potential to renew a major sponsorship arrangement for a further period with similar significant financial returns for the club.

When bills are due right now quick money is always more important than any other type of money.

What if we needed a bumper crowd to get the deal renewed?

"Political Deals" like this one have nothing to do with "performance" on whether they will get renewed or not, they're decided on a political whim. There's no way the NT Government are even remotely breaking even on this deal.

I reckon they do it for $$ and for the NRL requirement on clubs to support regional development of rugby league.

Why else would they do it? Primarily if the first reason wasn't there then I doubt the second option would even be considered.

Apparently they are in front.

On who's advice? The Parramatta Club??

If we've received $5 million over the last four years then there is no way that the NT Government has got a BCR out of this of greater than 1. The only way the entire Territory of the NT would have even made an indirect economic benefit to the NT economy would be if at least 5000 people in the crowd had travelled to the NT to watch the game. I'd suggest this number would be less than 2000.

If the only benefit to the NT was the single Darwin game, i would agree.
However there is also the Alice trial and the major component which is increased exposure in Western Sydney for NT as a tourist destination throughout the whole year.

And on the advice of an NT gov employee who was instrumental in doing the deal.

I'd still be surprised if he could produce written evidence to substantiate a claim of a direct BCR of better than 1 though for this deal. But having said that, f**k all minor sponsorship arrangements for sporting teams could.

So just hand over the two points, whats the big deal???? I suppose when you aren't capable of landing a major sponsor you do what you can to keep what you have.......

As i said if we miss the finals by one game i hope the club is happy with their decision to
maximise the potential to renew a major sponsorship arrangement for a further period with similar significant financial returns for the club.

So, do you think the location of last night's game had a bearing on the result?

If so, why?

And you don't??? We played in conditions that suited them and the crowd seemed to be 4-1 on the cows side. If you don't think that played a part you are kidding yourself. The crowd seemed far more hostile than the game in Townsville. Every time thurston touched the ball they cheered and every time we went near JT they booed. 2 or 3 times it lead to crucial penalties.
