NT Game vs Cowboys - Game Day Thread

I would say the Parra crowd outweighed the Cowboys crowd about 60:40 although the Cowboys crowd were more vocal at times (especially when JT was smashed). Three early but late hits on JT by Brown, Kaysa and I forget who was third, didnt get Cowboys a penalty and in fact until JT complained after the 3rd one, the refs didnt even warn on the run.

As far as the conditions go, low humidity, breeze across the ground all game and about 27c. Nothing special in that for either side.

Edit: Oh and booing was mostly caused by a bloke trying all game to start Mexican Wave and a large section of the crowd booing when it failed.

27 compared with about 10 degrees favoured us i suppose..........

Seemed like it was well over 50% for them on the telly. We weren't allowed to lay a finger on Thurston after that first hit and he did as he pleased. But yeah made no difference at all, they would of beat us even if we played on the moon.

To be honest I'm not a fan of taking games to the NT. But I'm sure the club doesn't do it for shits and gigs.

The locals can't have much to do if they keep rolling up to see what's been offered so far. I can't remember one quality game that has been played there yet and I'm taking nothing away from the Cowboys effort last night. Lead up game 66-10 followed by a 32-6 main game must have them lining up for more.

Just to correct an error...

We picked the Cowpokes as the opposition for last nights game, not the NRL.

I and others had thought that the NRL picked it, but it was confirmed for me that the club preference was the Cowboys.

Apparently there were a few factors involved in the decision.

Id love to see Thurston play the eels. Odd choice of game to take.

of course we picked the cowboys along with titans and Canberra they are the main poor drawcards for our home games. Not sure why we took Penrith up there as a local derby should be kept here

we play the dragons next at ANZ on Sunday (the cowboys play Melbourne in Melbourne on Saturday)
We need a win here leading into the bye, dragons wont have frizell nor dugan.

as brad Arthur said we seem to take two steps forward one big step back. Heres hoping a step forward v the dragqueens

There was a game between the 2 you mentioned but not unlike Sydney, everyone gets there mostly for the main game only.

You could say the same about the Parra fan in Sydney for the past 8 seasons.

What a load of crap, ANZ pay us 100k per game. Is the club really that short of cash???

$100k? Is that seriously all we get to play at ANZ??

f**k me, the Raiders get paid over $2 million a season to play at the only available ground in the entire city.

He said $100k per game.
Though I'm not sure if that is even correct.
Souths and Bulldogs certainly used to get that kind of cash when they first moved to ANZ, but I have idea if they still offer up that kind of money.

Is that still a good deal though? $100k per game??

I don't know.
I have no idea what teams normally get paid for playing at a stadium (apart from you mentioning Canberra just now).

I actually thought most teams pay the grounds to play there.

.

Yeah but maybe the ground makes money off ticket sales and catering? Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

They do.
Well catering they do. Not sure about ticket sales.
Didn't we have to pay rent to be at Parra Stadium? I know I've heard of the Titans having to pay shitloads in rent to play at their home ground. Brisbane do too, I think.
I think if you can get a stadium to pay you anything to play there you should be happy. If Canberra gets $2m to play in Canberra (is that per year or over a few years?) then good for them. But $100k per game for us (if that is what we are getting) is fantastic!

I think I know less than you do regarding who pays for what. And yeah, I'm sure we had to pay to play at Parra stadium. But it's not magic. The grounds need to make money somehow. ANZ can't pay clubs to play there if there's no benefit to them.

Oh I agree.

Are we arguing? I'm not sure what we're arguing about if we are, sorry. Did I miss something?

I bet I said something stupid back there, didn't I.
