There's a couple of good halves across the competition - Wighton, Tuimavave, Miller, Siejka etc. etc. Would be good to see these players step up because as it is, the general standards in the halves are pretty low.

But that isn't of concern to us Broncos fans.

Don't really know, only read the article which said he's playing for Met West.

Wouldn't imagine you'll see him in the NYC this year.

Brisbane Broncos 26 (Timu, Watson, Seage, Frisby, Cullen tries; Oates 3/4, Binge 0/1 goals) def. North Queensland 20

Pretty good win for the Broncos, the Cowboys are one of the better sides in the Toyota Cup and to finish over the top of them is a great effort.

Sounds like we did it tough too, 11-3 linebreaks to the Cows means we had to have scrambled really well and come up with some great defensive efforts.

Stand out stats.
1. Daniel Levi - 2 Try Assists, 1 linebreak, 17 runs for 150m, 4 tackle breaks, 2 offloads.
3. Corey Oates - 1 linebreak, 8 tackle breaks, 11 runs for 171m
7. Cameron Cullen - 1 try 2 Try Assists, 3 tackle breaks, 3 offloads, 12 runs for 122m
8. Stephen Coombe - 20 runs for 172m, 3 tackle breaks, 1 offload, 29 tackles (1 missed)
10. Daniel Alvaro - 15 runs for 137m, 2 tackle breaks, 19 tackles
11. Caleb Timu - 1 Try, 1 linebreak, 22 runs for 131m, 11 tackle breaks, 3 offloads
16. Josh Seage - 1 try, 10 runs for 112m, 4 tackle breaks

Did anybody watch the game and can you give us your impressions on it?

Corey Oates is big and fast. Looked a real prospect on Friday night. Game was pretty similar to first grade. Either side could have won it.

I only saw the last 30 mins and cannot believe how the Cows butchered a few tries after breaking the line relatively easy, as is often the case in the Toyota cup. We ended up winning on the back of an intercept from Cullen converted under the posts, and could have had another intercept try by Frisby, but he couldn't run anymore after repeated cramps when kicking the ball.
Speaking of, I think Beads already said it somwhere, but Louis Frisby is doing a good job of channeling Locky. Quite eerie...

Zach Koitka makes his debut in place of the injured Jerome Leedy.

It's going to be a tough contest for the young Broncos - Newcastle have flogged their last two opponents and have a ton of players playing their final season in the NYC.

Brisbane Broncos 24 (Lumley 3, Timu, Watson tries; Oates 2/5 goals) def. Newcastle Knights 16

Great win by the junior Broncos, to put it into perspective Newcastle were the form team of the competition and only have 6 players playing their first year of NYC football compared to the Broncos who have 11.

From the sounds of it, the boys really dug in with their defence coming up with a couple of important try savers and we seemed to cut them to pieces on the fringes. Sounded like a real team performance with our halves and backs combining well and Timu once again standing out in the forwards.

There's a report up on the Broncos website and I'll update this thread with stats. later on.

Tbh I'm very surprised we are 2-1 to start the season, given the Broncos (right) decision to play the better players in QLD cup.

Look forward to watching them play at some stage.

As you'd expect it's unchanged from Round 3. Mitch Moore is the Wynnum rookie who scored on debut in R1 of the QCup.

Workhorse lock.

He's 'ok' but hardly a stand out at this level. Lacks consistency and is always good for an important drop or two.

Had a good game against the Knights though. (apparently)
