One Ref

I'm thinking the only way it can work, someone infringes referee calls advantage and signals six again. If you pick it up and run with it the tackle count restarts, if you leave it you get a full penalty. Doesn't seem very well thought out.
Sounds good, so it probably won't be that.

Further to your process, I would require the decision to be made immediately, without a team meeting and round-table holding up the play.

"The wrestle was the same with one referee vs two referees"

Probably need to look at play the ball speeds of Origin w/ two referees vs internationals w/ one referee.

If you think it was the same, you're not looking at it objectively.

Isn’t that how penalties work already?
You can decide to run with it and get six again (quick tap) or kick for touch.

It hasn’t improved it that much. Refs don’t penalise what they should be doing. If that means giving 25 penalties a game so be it. The bunker is worse though.

So we've had broadcasters, players and now referees try to derail this season restarting.

Maybe it's just time to agree that the 2020 season is cursed.

It would be better if it was 6 again if there are more than 2 defenders in the tackle. If there is more than 2 in the tackle these days it is purely for wrestling purposes.

Or because players are more athletic and skilled, they need the extra player to complete the tackle without an offload.

I wish refs were silent.
None of this coaching game management shit. Hand up for 5th. Blow the whistle for penalty, tries and breaks.

I can't see 1 ref at the end this comp (2020) Eventually it will be 2 refs. When played many many years ago, it was the done thing (laying, stripping, even doing plays) One of the best - eventually when he retires...maybe at 44 immortal? lol!

The question will evolve into what is a ruck 6 again call?
  • getting up too slow
  • Hand in the ruck
  • chicken wing or leg pull
  • stripping the ball in the ruck
  • markers not standing square
  • 3 or 4 markers
  • when do you blow a penalty 2nd, 3rd or 4th occurrence
  • when do you sin bin a player 3rd, 4th or 5th occurrence
  • Walking off the mark
  • Strinking for the ball
  • Pushing the tackled player over when playing the
There iisn't anything called a ruck penalty in the rule book

They are all play the ball infringements

Good point. That's because when we broke away from Union one of the ugly things we got rid of was rucks and replaced them with play the balls. Unfortunately over the last 20 years coaches have brought rucks back and we need rule changes to get rid of them again. We rejected rucks 100 years ago.

If they were really trying to get rid of teams giving away penalties whilst defending their own line. Why not have a rule where the penalised player is removed from the field for the remainder of the teams possession?

Would give more opportunity to the attacking team, still give them the choice to take the penalty goal, and not completely change the rules.

Wait.. So say a player is stripped of the ball after a tackle is complete, but referee calls a lost ball. When the captain challenge is successful, is it a penalty or a six again?
