Gordon is similar to Brett Stewart but has much better tackle breaking abilities. He can convert as well.

Fifita could easily snag a bench spot, aggressive, passionate, makes good metres.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I'm really not seeing the whole Maloney thing. As we have a lack of a halfback who has great creating ability. Maloney is the direct opposite of what we need. He is a good runner of the ball, hole runner and to be honest that's really it. Carney should be and will be 5/8.

Short of an injury to the Queensland spine, I can't see us getting them again this year without Daley thinking right outside the square on how he picks and prepares this team.

Even in the event of injury, Queensland has DCE for Half-Back, They can move Inglis to Fullback, Ballin to Hooker. Cronk could move to 5/8 for DCE if Thurston was injured or even Smith/Inglis could move. And to be honest, all of those backup options are better than anything we can pick.... Outside of perhaps fullback we may be able to draw level.

A smart look at how the Storm have been shut down previously is probably the only way to do this. The best options I can think of where most of that back line has been shut down was by either the Sea Eagles in 2008 (Smith not available) or during one of the series the Kiwi's have won (with Shenius as coach)... That's the template as far as I am concerned. You need need quick backs, 80 minute second rowers (fit and in form) and some mobile heavy duty props. Aggressive, solid line in defence. You also need a big kicking game to turn them around. We won't beat the back line without absolutely destroying the energy levels of their forwards.

I find it interesting that some have pulled G Stewart as not SOO style player... But how anybody could leave Watmough out based on that theory is beyond me. The way I see it, you want at least one or the other. I'm thinking more to Watmough myself. But if we go for the same halves as last year, you want ball playing second rowers who can tackle. As they will be defending on their line unless they can put on a try.

I've not rated Daley historically. His commentary stinks of favouritism to certain sides, and unfortunately there is no room to accommodate that at this level. Especially facing the best side ever in SOO history.

As a Manly fan, I've always loved watching my players play SOO, especially against each other. I no longer look forward to seeing my teams players on the field in SOO. They don't seem to bring that much back by playing it any longer. Thankfully our key positions are normally ok as we have 2nd level QLD'ers or Kiwi's in prime positions, except our back row. I wonder if this was by design or just pure luck.

Farah is better than Ballin and played almost if not as good or even better (take a pick lol) as Smith. But yes the rest of their spine wins, although our fullbacks are close

I dunno about the fullbacks being close. I spent the better part of a day a few years ago with Luke Lewis' grandfather whom I was assisting at the time. Luke's granpa said that Billy Slater was the best fullback he had ever seen. He reckoned that Slater was better than Clive Churchill. He knew Gordon etc. He didn't even mention them.

dunno about you but i'm glad that slater has recovered from his injury and back to his best. He'll take his place at fullback for the Qlds which will thankfully push Inglis back into the centers.

The main difference between Qld and NSW is the number 7. If joey was still playing and was in his prime, NSW would have easily won in previous years.

9. Farah
8. Grant

14. Woods
15. Merrin
16. Watmough
17. T. Sims

T Rex is too inconsistent, and Sims is better anyway. I just hope we are smart enough to play 4 props. Half is the only position where I'm uncertain. I think Reynolds could work with Carney, Hayne, and Farah in the spine. Plenty of spark while Reynolds employs his excellent organisational and kicking games. An ace goalkicker to boot. The only other caveat is if we have to have a replacement hooker, it should be Hinchcliffe.

Swap one of the wingers for Gordon and this is the best team that NSW could pick. Easily a better pack than QLD and the backs are no slouch either.

This team will win.

If we stack the outside backs with attacking weapons and the fringes with tackling machines we might have a chance.

1. Hayne
2. Gordon
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Uate
6. Carney
7. Reynolds
8. Grant
9. Farah
10. Tamou
11. Gallen
12. Bird
13. Fensom

14. Woods
15. Sims
16. Merrin
17. Fifita

Stick Reynolds between Fensom and Gallen in defence. Let Queensland run at him all they want.

I am warming to this spine.

9. Farah
7. Carney
6. Mullen
1. Hayne

When you have Farah, you can have running halves.

It is what the opposition does.

Hayne instructed to run mainly, if the pass is on take it, but look to run first.

Carney left, with Bird/Watmough, JMoz, BMoz.

Mullen right with Lewis/T Williams, Jennings, Uate.

Tamou, Gallen, Then a fight between Woods, Merrin, Fifta, Grant and others.

Maybe one too many backrowers on the bench but I'd select Lewis as the utility and push Gallen into the front row when necessary.

This means he'll have to have a f**king red hot go. Hope he has it in him. He sure used to run it back hard a few years ago now. What's happened to him?

Not sure, running was always the best part of his game. He could always ball play as well, but after 09 he made ball playing his priority over running

if, and it is a very big if, the selectors were wise enough to choose this side, i'd be worried. seems to have no weakness.
