OT: Siege in Martin Place

We had 4 people from work holed up in the Cafe, all safe, one taken to hospital with minor injuries. Fortunetly I'm based in Kogarah and not Martin Place. Most of the people in the Martin Place building were told to leave around 3pm. We went to the pub in sympathy.

Same workplace!

Thank you guys, we were lucky to have our loved one returned to us. Feel terrible for the families who lost theirs.
Very rough time indeed.

Thank you all again, and thanks Webby for the message.

Glad to hear CB.
Sydney took a turn for the worse yesterday. Sad day for all involved.
RIP

His ex barrister described him as a damaged goods individual.

Yet his current barrister would describe him as normal & a victim & not a criminal.

Someone should've put their foot down with him but no one jas the balls....& look what's happened.

It's disgusting that such trash would be allowed to walk our streets.

Well. People are always out on the streets that shouldn't be. The man that killed Daniel Morcombe as an example.

Fatal Seige in Victoria Today.

120 odd kids killed in Pakistan.

Humans. Yay

Did I hear right & it's 40 charges he was facing?

Those charges relate to an extra 40 sexual assault matters put on him as late as last October. This is on top of the original charge of sexual assault. A number of extra victims came forward.

He was also facing charges of accessory to murder of his ex wife.

When you consider his extreme views and the possibility of extreme actions seems strange he was at large.

I heard the ex NSW Attorney General Nicolas Cowdrey rambling on yesterday on sky. Monis was reporting to police daily. Thats about the only restriction on him and he was basically free to go about his business which included the siege.

Next one of these so called religious leaders that spruke any form of anti social rhetoric should be locked up on the spot.

Take no chances ever again.

Same goes for pedo priests or bullshit cult group leaders.

Forget the nonsense you hear from Ray Hadley. There was nothing wrong with the old bail laws and there is nothing wrong with the bail laws that are currently in place.

There is a big problem though with the crap they're about to bring in though.

At the end of the day, bail is designed to ensure that a person attends court and that they don't commit further offences. Anyone charged with an offence is presumed innocent unless and until they are convicted.

If a magistrate called the accessory to murder charge weak, chances are it was. In relation to the other charges, there is no indication they were committed while he was on bail and sexual assault charges generally are rarely described as strong.

They've gone spastically overboard with the proposed changes and many innocent people (alongside guilty pricks who won't be found guilty) are going to spend lengthy periods of time in custody. Give it 6 - 12 months and people will be screaming to high heaven and demanding change.

And the f**kwit who did the harm was not even on George Brandis's 'watch' list apparently

No Robert McCelland took him off back in 2007. Can't victimise these poor asylum seekers.

Brandis and co are just faced to deal with Rudd/Gillards failed legacy.
