I wouldn't say Lockyer, Thurston, Prince are good defenders.

BUt tbh bart, unless we pay big money for a great half (which I would do but none are available), what can we do?

T.Smith playing well some games and poorly in others is just what an average half is like.

However, when he is brilliant, he is very good.

When he isn't, well, then Mateo, KK, Hayne needs to step up and take over.

Finch never did and that's also why T.Smith felt so much pressure to do everything himself.

If the price is right, I would have him back unless we snare Wing or Monaghan

The impression I'm getting Bartman is that you are making your judgments based on your personal dislike for Tim Smith rather than his playing ability.

Likewise you pro-Tim Smith blokes would bottle the bloke's piss and sell it as a panacea....Even though it would mostly be alcohol...:sarcasm:

I kid, I kid.

I would offer him spot number 25 on minimum NRL wage ($55K) for a year, if he was serious about re-building his NRL reputation. But I wouldn't hang my hopes on him making a difference nor have him as first choice half over Finch, Robson, Keating, Mortimer... etc.

that is what i would do, maybe insentive deal or otherwise would pay a maximum of 70k if he begged, and his contract woul dhave 100 clauses in it to show he wants to prove himself.

He could be a great signing or he could be a dud signing but he will do more than robson with the ball in hand even at 10% fitness so he is worth atleast a shot in a 25 man squad but i wont be cutting my wrist if we dont get him

He would excel if we had unlimited interchange.

Throw him on when we are attacking in the opposition half.

Then take him off !! hahahaha.

I don't really see Robson doing that much besides outstanding defense.

If Tim could hide himself somewhere in defense, he could well be an asset as he has the creativity to solve our issues I think

Assuming you are right (that he would indeed offer more with the ball in hand), why would that make it worth the gamble? He may set up two tries and leak 2 through crap defense.

As if that wasn't bad enough he'd be off to the nearest pub after full time to drown his sorrows and God knows what else.

I just don't see why he should be offered anything, and specially not ahead the likes of KK and Mortimer.

And offering 70k if he begged? Why? Who is he to command that sort of salary as a part-time member?

You pro-Tim blokes bash the non-believers endlessly, but you lot are the most biased bunch of fans I have ever seen. You almost come across as people who think Tim Smith is the direct descendant of Jesus Christ...

the inconsistency of tim smith is exactly what the eels DON'T want now and in the future.

we can do better

a Name pls?

Monaghan I have already mentioned, I would definitely like?

I doubt we have the cash or ability to nab lockyer.

Somehow, I am not an Orford fan (and he'd ask for overs), Kimmorley yes, but not orford.

I just think it's too early for KK or Morts to take full control.

i have said monaghan in a past thread too, and orford i certainly don't mind for 1 season.

i agree about morts, but not kk, i think he is ready for the 6 fulltime now, and he is already a better 6 than nearly half the rest in the league.

other names.......luke walsh, is he signed long term?

More than generous, considering we paid him out as he had gone to the gold coast and wasn't playing....and he then got a deal in the UK.

Effectively paid by two clubs for one season.....

Fine. Not bash. Endlessly criticise. Some gems that have been tossed up by pro-Timmah fans to the say-no-to-Timmah fans:

"He's only just behind Prince and Thurston in terms of halfback ability."

"It seems the people who don't want him here don't want good players at Parra."

"Had he been halfback we would have won."

It's getting boring.

How can you say that about the greatest halfback to ever lace up the boots for Parramatta?

Yeah, I'm an ass. :)

But seriously - comparing Tim Smith to Scott Prince or Jonathan Thurston is a bit rich.

And I find it especially tickling when people say our inconsistent halves are the problem for us at the moment, and they say their solution would be to sign Tim Smith? The same guy who could never boast consistency as a strong point in his resume save for his debut season?

Bah!

What a horrible thing to state that as if it was fact. Have you been watching how our halfbacks have been going lately?

A name? Any NRL half-back coming off contract would be better than him.
I know that no-one will agree with me, but I`d prefer Robson over Tim Smith any day. Or Keating. And they`re rookies. Tim Smith isn`t.
