We don't need a quality 5-8, we have Mateo. Unless we buy a halfback (quality) i think it is a waste to buy a 5-8. I would prefer we went out and replaced the backrow with a few quality signning with the liek of creigh and crocker (yes i know he isn't on the market, its an eg).

I think luring Jason Cayless back, I would not pay 400K for someon like Poore, so maybe chase Creigh hard and a few solid signning. Then when Cayless is off contract we can use his money to buy a quality front rower. I have no quarms with a halves pairing of Mateo and Keating, I actually thinks its better then Sutton and Sandow or Anasta and Pearce.

We also have someone like Mortimer who can be elevated as a non - dominating halfback or 5-8. I don't expect him to kill it in the NRL, but he just has to be solid with his kicking game and passing game, while Keating can make the big plays.

You make a good point, but I`ve still got some doubts about Mateo at five-eight - a bit too erratic for my liking - but time will tell. My main point was, that if we give K.K. enough time, he MIGHT turn into a very high quality half-back - high quality enough so that we don`t need to consider buying one. Also, you couldn`t possibly think that Mateo can control a game like Anasta can - not yet, anyway.

Perhaps...but that's exactly as you've said; an assumption. There's no evidence in any of the "known and published facts" pete was going on about earlier to indicate he's anything more than a scumbag who got wasted and allegedly hit a woman...

I`m not for or against Tim Smith as a person. The only reason I wouldn`t want him back at Parramatta is that, in my own personal opinion - (which doesn`t mean anything) - I don`t rate him very highly as a half-back. I`d much rather have Kris Keating. Any day.
But as far as the 'known and published FACTS are concerned; Tim Smith came out and said he had been diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder. As far as I am aware, we don`t have any other evidence that this is indeed true. So let`s stick to FACTS, shall we?

There is published claims as to Smith's illness...there have been no such claims made regarded the Canberra player. That was my point, pure and simple...oh, and that pete is a massive hypocrite, can't forget that:lol:

No. Joel has no problem 'beyond his control'.
I am confident he will be exonerated when he has his day in Court. We'll just have to wait and see.
But as I have posted earlier, I will be sticking by Joel and his family, regardless of the outcome.
What he has been charged with is totally out of character.

It may be out of character but it is just a dog act, in that case. At least with my scenario there was a mitigating factor behind it - in this case he just acted like an idiot for no reason (other than 'provocation').

Sorry - Just never had a huge wrap on the lad.
I personally think he is a lot like John Sutton. Flashy (every now and then) but without a lot of substance.
I think he is too quiet for a senior player and tends to go missing during the game.
He also has too many high risk, low quaility plays in his game.
Hey - just my opinion.

Wigan were forced into a couple of changes from the side that lost at home to Hull KR last Friday. George Carmont and Phil Bailey missed out through injury while Tim Smith has returned to Australia for a week for personal family reasons.

Get on the phone Ando.

He's not as good as he was 2 years ago, but there's a few reasons for that:

* playing in a pack that doesn't make metres (generally)
* no halves anymore
* people know what he can do and mark him extra hard
* and lastly, nobody seems to follow him when he has the ball; as soon as he gets the ball, at least one support player needs to be right up on him because he inevitably draws 3 or 4 defenders in and can still pop an offload

Wigan will not rush Tim Smith back from Australia to play in Friday's Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final against Salford.

The 24-year-old stand-off flew home on the eve of Friday night's Super League game at Warrington due to a close family illness.

In his absence, the Warriors went down 16-8 to miss the chance of climbing into the top eight and leave the Cup as their best chance of securing silverware this year.

Wigan take on Salford at the JJB Stadium on Friday knowing they are just 160 minutes away from a trip to Wembley but coach Brian Noble is not putting any pressure on his playmaker to return in time to play.

"Tim flew home for personal reasons," he said. "We don't know when he will be back.

"It's important he takes care of his family problems. He's got our full support."

Bring him back, His short kicking game would have been perfect last night and we would have been up by 20 at half time had he been directing the team around the park.

Yeah lets bring him back. Lets get Tony Zappia back as well. Lets just open the door to every dickhead coz we're all upset at losing. Hell I want to win just as much as anyone here but I absolutely cannot see the point in bringing people back here who have so many problems. I want to move forward not backwards!
