I don't see how anyone ever rated him. If Long played NRL he would be 16th in the order of best halfbacks. I'd rate every other 7 in the NRL as better than him.

Exactly. He played behind a dominant pack in a very well-coached side and did nothing. But he looked good because his team was good.
