Then the question has to be asked, why the hell did we pick him up?

He was cheap, he's still young and probably regarded as a project player, have a look at the 2nd tier players from other clubs you'll see similar traits

Whatever thickens your sausage TPB. Me personally prefer the ladies, but I must confess, I do prefer them on the lager side with cures. None of these skinny bitches for me.

So our second string side showed we're capable of scoring points against sides of similar talent in the first half, but our closer to full strength side couldn't hold it with the grand finalists fuller strength side in the second half? That's not too shabby to be honest.

It still points to the potential of a mid-range finish this season, which post-Kearney and post-Ricky is really the most anyone can expect for 2014. It's up to the players and the coach whether they can improve over the course of this season and finish any higher than say 10th. If we can then it's a big improvement, coming off a run of spoon or next-to-spoon finishes.

Incorrect, we had about 6 or 7 players that played both halves whilst the other mob had a fresh new team in the 2nd, we were always going to leak a few tries and they were always going to finish the stronger in that 2nd half...to add there were some uncharacteristic mistakes by both Hayne and tonga in our half that lead to manly scoring..

If anyone can gauge out season on last nights performance than they're either a genius or simply clutching at straws..

If Arferrz's can get us a mid-table finish with a squad he didn't assemble, he's done very well IMO.

I can understand why people are upset with the loss, but I'd like to point out:

(1) just a trial;

(2) our "full strength" team isn't even final yet;

(3) we had a certain try disallowed;

(4) like Ahrfuhrs' said today at the community festival, that Manly side has been built up over the course of five years, and our squad has had five months.

Have noticed over the past few months a few people were still critical of our recruitment. The Dragons were much more active in terms of recruiting first grade players in Widdop, Cooper, Williams, Dugan and others to a reasonably, on paper at least, strong squad. They were pumped by a Souths side without their two starting halves,

We played a Manly side in the second half who had fresher players and an international halves pairing and lost by four points. I don't think that is in all reality a scary way to start the season. We have a long way to go but I still have a healthier outlook on this season for a change. Certainly better than getting pumped by the Tigers under Stuart with a similar squad.

We have 42 players on senior contracts. Seventeen of those are on second tier contracts, meaning they only count under the cap if they play NRL. That means you can carry some and just focus on their development (i.e. potential).

Remember James Maloney didn't play NRL until the year he turned 23 and that was just as a backup (four games). He didn't play a full season until the next year (when he turned 24).

Toby Evans is only 21 this year.
