Papalii is a gun and I'd love to have him at the Eels. But I won't slit my wrists if we don't get him - Kelepi Tanginoa, Frazer Masinamua, Chad MacGill and Pauli Pauli will be just as good IMO. These four guys are huge prospects - I say we give Papalii a deadline to say he's staying or joining us. If he knocks us back, go all out to retain these young guys IMO.

There is a deadline. It's June 13. Even if he does come out tomorrow and says yep im coming to Parra he still can change his mind up until round 13
I know that. But I'm saying our club should pressure him. Yes or no - right now? If he says no, focus on the kids.
And if 3 out of those 4 have been re-signed until 2015, then that is great news.
Lets say he we pressure him and he says 'yes i will play with Parra'. It will all look good in the media but we would still be in the exact same situation we are in now. He can still change his mine up until June 30
At least raiders might back off a bit. So less pressure from them

There are more limits on this than people are making out!!
Papali has actually signed a contract with Parramatta (or at least that is alleged).
IF that is true then it's a bit complicated, since he has made an agreement FIRST to the Eels.
From the NRL perspective, they won't register any new contracts until the deadline. However that does not mean that a player isn't contracted to a club.
EG: Brett Stewart, his contract isn't registered with the NRL yet, meaning he can't play NRL footy. However he's still under the employ of Manly, and we can't simply sign him up without him getting out of that contract first. If we tried, Manly could claim contractual rights and they'd have a case.
Contracts aren't centrally administered, but the registration process is.
So in the Papali case, he has signed for us. There is a rule which allows the incumbent club the 'right of last refusal' - so if they stump up the cash, he can play for them (should he change his mind). His contract with us is only valid to the extent that Canberra has been given last refusal (it's a clause in his contract, which not every player manager leaves in there apparently).
Re: the rule, Brady was clear that he can change his mind tomorrow and agree with Canberra, thus voiding our offer (via the clause).
We therefore do not have contractual rights until after round 13, and they have the right to try and persuade him until then.
If you ask the NRL nicely, and use hypothetical situations, you can extract this information for yourself.
Didn't Nathan Smith sign a contract with Canberra and Luke Lewis likewise with Souths? Seems that it was relatively easy for them to break the contractual agreement before June 30.
I think the thing we NEED to remember in all this is that we already pressured him, and he said YES.
Perhaps they're on the phone to him daily trying to make sure he sticks to his yes? But we're the frontrunners at the moment. Unfortunately Canberra have catchup mode on, and can use the turbo boost to get in front if they can find it....
As far as I'm aware, not one player has signed a contract, only to back out of it via this rule.
Didn't Tim Moltzen do the same?
Suity
If he does reneg on the deal then so be it - it goes towards his character. He signed a contract and to back away just speaks volumes about his internal mental strength - I don't want pricks like that at parra.
