PESC, i hope you have every success!

The last time i went on the supporters bus it was full of whinging old women, so i found the comment earlier quite amusing. A mate and i used to catch it all the time to go to Canberra, Wollongong and Newcastle...

Were they whinging on the way there or on the way home? After a loss I have been known to whinge like an old woman.

Captain BF,
Thanks for your support.
Mate, thats exactly the perception I'm trying to change of this club! In the past the patronage of the club has been mainly fans of the older generation. However as the time passes, ideals change and so do people, unfortunately the older generation pass and if that continues and our club does not grow it will fold eventually.
Thats where I come in, younger and more vibrant, with many new ideas and a strong focus on where I would like this club to be in the future. Being in the military over the last 20 years has enabled me to be able to take charge and manage large numbers with a firm but fair hand, Whilst I'm not running a dictatorship, I beleive everybody deserves a fair go. So while in the past there may have been some whinging old women on the bus if we're able to attract younger members the more diverse we will be and the more interesting our club will be and therefore more enjoyable to everyone in all age groups. So mate come along, get involved and help reinvigorate the club.

I'm not interested in merch but is there a point in someone from Adelaide joining?

Haynzy,
We are looking to put initiatives in place to benefit interstate members ie: quarterly newsletter and a few other ideas, of course if you have any ideas please feel free to let me know. I have had one person get in contact with me and for the same price you can buy two happy meals for expected about 200 rods worth of gear, guess you can't make everybody happy

Hey All -

Just FYI. Nikki and I rocked up to this meeting last night and met up with MITS. Sat at the back of the room and had a listen.

They had Daniel Anderson speak at the start, which was great. I could see how being a member of this group, and getting opportunities like that at the start would be completely worth it. (I'll post what he said in another thread..)

But yea after that, we sat through minutes and financial updates, including earnings from last meeting's $20.60 raffle and who won it, and in all honesty (and no offence) that's where you would lose 90% of interest. Nikks and i dragged our arses there straight after work and were just hit with piles of information that gave no real interest. My favourite was when in the corrospondance we got to talk about sending cards and 'Betty decided not to renew her membership due to night games and damp air.'
I understand necessary evil, but if the plan was to get a whole new crowd of people in, interested and attending each week, something really needs to be done there.

Unfortunatley i can't see the current membership being happy if they were all of a sudden outnumbered with hundreds of younger fans. I think that they are quite happy at the moment with what they've got, and may give some resistance to any change.

I don't know what the solution is here. Do you make the current membership a side social group (which is what they are... They are all friends and this is their way of catching up) of the main PESC, and get some new blood in to discuss trips and events and fundraising? Or do you allow this group to remain as is and start something fresh with the BGA? I think what they have is great for them! When the young (poss. disabled?) boy (Josh?) spoke about his chance to meet Prince William with other young athletes - my heart melted a million times over.

In any case, Nikki totally won a packet of Arnotts NICE biscuits at the end of the raffle. Score one for the visitors. Thanks for having us, but not sure if i'll be motivated to come back for a few meetings.. until things get moving anyway!

Yeah it was a great meeting and good to chat with Daniel Anderson.

Some of the things Jess mentioned are necessary evils. The financial and the like, as well as correspondence, but I was just doing the maths in my head last night the raffle was quite a money spinner.

$ 22.60 spent on raffle prizes, more than 3 books of 100 raffle tickets sold at $1 for 3, means a nice little profit for the SC to do go toward booking busses or other promotions like the Player of the Year award.

Understanding the need for them is one thing, but seeing that majority of new members would not/will not give a damn about them and wants to get to the good stuff is another.. there has to be a solution.

Thats the thing, I think that the club is bound, in part by N.S.W. law to make these sorts of announcements at these sorts of meetings. I know we have to do it at another group I am involved with.

Did they put out an agenda?

Maybe an agenda with the boring necessary evil stuff to kickoff the meet, a 15 min break, then the fun stuff listed on an agenda.

Then people can rock in during the 15 min break. Make it like when you go see events like a special circus. You can't enter the room until an intermission, then it won't disrupt the 1st part of the meeting.
