Its not so much how many juniors you have (though it is nice to have local products in your team) its more to do with developing young and cheap players to a premiership standard

it's all those factors, but like any good business you need the market mass before you milk it for conversion

some very different scenarios though. eg Brisbane, BRL clubs produce jnrs, NSW leagues clubs fund jnrs directly linking to the NRL brand, Melbourne Storm only get involved from U16-U20, Perth WARL clubs produce jnrs then elites go into WARL U18 system. Its a bit hard to pass judgement and comparison when there is such a huge variation in models and funding available.

it's pretty obvious which brisbane clubs produce better than others, the broncos have the advantages of state patriotism and the community support in influencing juniors to aspire to play for their state flagship side.

it's up to the broncos to best leverage their strategies to capatalise on this, there is no denying they have a sizeable advantage which they clearly are inept at this point in time.

That is where the passing of Cyril Connell has been a big factor for the Broncos. It was reputed he had the best contacts all over Qld due to his years working in the Qld Education system. Thus when any aspiring school boy footballer of talent appeared in Qld, Connell would be one of the first to hear of it. I don't think they have found an adequate successor to him to be honest.

That is why a good recruitment officer/manager is vital.

Combined with the Cowboys pulling there finger out.

Strange as it may seem, but some, not all, North Queenslanders actually want to play for NQ these days.

The difference is that soccer is king in UK...

RL is in a crowded market place over here, and constant negative and whinging media story lines from their own specialist juornos tends to always reinforce the position that League is on the decline amongst the people with a limited following of the game...

You don't get this media negativity from the other codes...

Is your self-esteem about the sport that low? Are you that insecure about the future of rugby league? If you thought it was the best sport in the world you wouldn't care what journos say about it, in fact you should be happy that they are writing about it.

So I would think that you feel that soccer is the greatest game? And regarding what R Crowe said before the WCC, he said that "RL is the best ball in hand sport", not the best sport full stop; I think he deep down thinks that soccer is the greatest game going by that quote, and the fact that the previous day he was watching Leeds United.

Any club can sign any junior at exactly the same time as any other club to the NRL. . . means sfa where he deposited most his dna

They need to start at the ground level and make sure the foundations are ok. That means Roosters to stop poaching Penrith juniors.

The only real fix for the salary cap in my view is Big Australia. A bigger population means a larger tax revenue stream, more opportunities for businesses to sell products (and establish operations), significantly increased crowds and - inevitably - more merchandise sold.

Therefore, as the dedicated rugby league supporter that you are, you should go f**k for the future.

So Penrith Juniors are "owned" by Penrith are they?! Gee, and here I was thinking slavery was abolished in the 19th century..... :sarcasm:

We dont own them but we partially fund the junior league in our district each year and get nothing out of it when other clubs come in and poach these kids.

Leagues club financially supports Penrith Jnr RL clubs not Panthers NRL club. The sole justification for the misery of pokie machines is funding of grass roots sport. Lets not kid ourselves that the Panthers NRL club are taking $2.5million out of their operating budget to give to Jnr RL. It is coming from the profits from the pokie clubs, thus giving them a modicum of justification for taking money out of low socio economic communities through gambling.

So? Just because you "partially fund the junior league" means the players owe your club? I didn't realise that the players have to pay back HECS style to their club? :sarcasm:

What about when the club doesn't want the player or thinks he is no good (e.g. Ask Daniel Tupou who couldn't crack the junior rep squads for Canterbury and was told he was not good enough for first grade by the Eels)?

That is the nature of the society we live in. Players are paid for the services rendered and are entitled to sign with whomever they want when they come off contract just like any other employee. Fact is junior league players don't even get paid to play, its is only players who make the Junior Rep Squads (i.e. Harold Matthews, S G Ball) who do and then they are under contract.

Im pointing out its a shit situation when a club doesnt benefit for funding junior leagues when the roosters(or any other club signing kids from our district) is benefiting from our funding.

Aww those poor dole bludgers speding all their money on crack cocaine and pokies. f**k off with this whingey shit, if you dont want to lose money dont play. If you cant stop yourself from playing put yourself on a banned list and seek help and stay out of clubs with pokies.

The previous government tried to enable a proper set up to help addicts stop themselves, the industry fought tooth and nail because they rely on addicts to keep themselves in profit.

There is nothing to stop Penrith signing the players concerned. If they don't want to pay them then that is their fault, no one else's. Junior league players are not in bondage to the parent club which is what you are alluding to, whether you realise it or not.
