Paul McGregor Extension

I agree with you that we could've hired a better coach. I mentioned 3 earlier I would rather see coach us. All I was saying is that we fans do not spend hours with Mary, on the training paddock, in the dressing sheds etc. to gain a better opinion on his capabilities as an NRL coach than the current squad. They seem to be okay with his extension, do seem to like playing under him, surely their opinions hold much more merit than ours do. Pretty sure we would not rather see our team looking like the Broncos under Seibold right now.

Please show me ONE example where players under contract, ( not when they have left ), have not come out in support of their current coach ?

His tenure now will reach historic proportions. He has TWICE stated that he has had the squad he wanted, so no excuse there.

Finally, what was the rush ? Which clubs had Mary on their radar ? The extension was premature again, and not warranted. We have no idea what coaching talent will be available come end of year, when his assessment should have been made.

You can bet your balls (sorry Tyson) on that mate.....I dont know of any line of employment where you continue to fail or under achieve and keep your job...politician's come to mind but even they dont last as long as this bloke

TV weather presenter.
Tim Bailey has as much chance of getting the weather correct as he has regrowing his hair, yet, he's made a career out of talking crap each and every week.
Well done, Tim.

I have been looking for external articles to confirm coaches extension but to date everything said “pending or soon”
Nothing on the club website

It's all just speculation from the media at the moment. Depending on your view of the media though, that can mean it's gospel - as you can see from some of the posts in here.

Yeah I would hate to be a club that is so accustomed to winning premierships at least once a decade that a slow start to the season causes a massive media storm, and the only coach you've got to handle the transition period is a highly rated guru with experience at a range of clubs across two hemispheres and who, in his rookie year, led a team that missed the finals in 2017 to a prelim final in 2018, scooping a Dally M coach of the year gong on the way. Definitely would hate that.

Of course the players are happy with him because they're under little or no pressure for their positions from a coach who is reluctant to make change unless forced by injury or suspension.
I don't rate Seibold as a coach for some reason, however I reckon their problem lies more in their cattle than anything else.Their spine in particular is a shambles as well as losing experience in their forwards.I would expect them to come good once they work these out.

Yeah, we hold a far more simplistic view of the world. Shame on us, wanting success, competency and accountability, as opposed to the complex, multi-layered view of ‘happy players = all is well’. Such a well rounded, intricate viewpoint. Us simpletons who want a coach with actual coaching ability and successful results could really learn from a learned mind such as yours.

A counter question - what teams have won a premiership with a tactically inept and overall incompetent coach with no experience in coaching more than 20km from his birthplace?

Went from penthouse to shit house last year in the space of 10 weeks. Use of the bench was ridiculous. Forwards finishing fatigued because we only used 15 players. JDB playing while obviously injured. Out of form players continually picked.

But all good. The players are happy.

Haha......very successful? At least 1 every decade? What happened this current decade?
If you think everything is honky dory at the Broncos in 2019, you have got rocks in your head. Seibold will do nothing with that mob until he gets Wayne Bennett out the heads of the captain, and a few other senior players. Not saying he can't do it, but he needs to do it if he wants success as a coach at Red Hill.

Robbie Farah. None of ours because they do support their coach.

Yeah what a shitshow. Lucky they didn't appoint a bloke from the Illawarra comp to take over huh.

Meanwhile we've won 1 finals match in 9 years and you're dancing around singing kumbaya and praising at the feet of the supercoach who's been in charge for half of it.

They will announce it soon Old Timer.

P.S lets not fight each other...Dorothy is entitled to her viewpoint and we should be able to agree to disagree...Dorothy did state 3 coaches who would be better than Mary....Kudos for that....I personally don't buy into the players are happy argument...its really irrelevant. The point should be is he the best available choice and how does he earn the title of "longest serving coach " after this extension.

Anyway its done ....which is so depressing....I really hope that Barrett can add a new dimension...that is our only hope.

He should not have been re-signed. He should have been sacked after the collapse in 2017, but prior to that he should have been sacked after the 11th place finish in 2016, and prior to that he should have been sacked immediately after the DUI, but prior to that there is no fking way he should have been appointed fulltime head coach in 2014, but prior to that he should not have been elevated to interim head coach when Price was sacked in 2014, but prior to that he should not have been appointed to the NRL coaching staff in 2013.
In a nutshell,,,

I do actually agree with you here, I DO think the players like him, and I do believe this is important as a coach if you want your players to believe in you, but it's only 1 factor in being a coach. You can be the best guy in the world, but it doesn't mean you'll be a great coach. His deficiencies have never been in his popularity within the club. He needs to show he is learning from previous mistakes, something we are yet to see.

I hope he proves so many wrong and leads the club to success, but there is no evidence that he is making alterations to the things that have cost us in the last few years, and that's why so many fans are frustrated he has been extended before he has demonstrated this.

At the end of the day, I'm not sure after 5 years how a best finish of 7th on the ladder is good enough, where losing 8 of your last 12 games every season is worthy of an extension now.
Well thought out thread....cant recall many of your posts...my opologies.... but your spot on with your comments

His tenure has already reached historic levels, with a number of club records to his name:
- biggest losing streak
- biggest losing scoreline at Kogarah
- most games held scoreless at Kogarah
- worst attacking start to a season
- highest ranked team mid-season to miss a finals series.

Why not add ‘longest employed failure’ to the list!
