Penrith's draw this year...

Gus wanted to emulate the professionalism of the Broncos.
Hopefully he does a better job of managing the salary cap ;-)

Also, don't underestimate Gus' ability to attract third party sponsors too. He'd have access to numerous contacts through nine, plus he would've learnt a few tricks in his long association with Politis.

So what do you see it as? you think you can retain them all without exceeding the cap?

compare what Moylan is on now in comparison to what he will be demanding next time around, I know it's only 1 guy but that's where the problems will be and if your crop is as good as you all make them out to be, you can probably multiply that a few times over.

I have Souths in the same boat, I think if they can't get it done this year they'll be waiting a long long time (in addition to the 4 decades since their last premiership)

Look at Manly. They go through 5-6 players a season but keep the spine players, Centres and Watmough. The rest are on not much at all.

Previously we would of signed Mansour in a heartbeat regardless of the cost but we hung back knowing we had more core players to sign

Our core players are:

Moylan
Whare defence strong to allow rookie's outside him
Idris same in centre or backrow
Segeyaro
Taylor
Cartwright
Taylor
Soward's locked in for 3 more years. In that time either of our SG Ball halves should be ready to take over.

Around that rookies and cast offs from other teams.

I highly doubt you will be able to keep all of them in the same team, cartwright looks like something special and will be after a big $$$ next contract and Segie as well, and thrown in Moylan and Whare both probably after big upgrades, pretty sure you will lose some.

Why wouldn't Penrith be able to keep them? The Broncs have more players who command more money in their squad right now. You have current origin stars. Penrith have none. There's no reason why Penrith can't manage their cap as well as the Broncs seemed to have.;-)

It's 7 players out of a squad of 25 teams do that all the time

All this talk about an easy draw is BS. Cronulla were in every experts top 8, Newcastle were last years preliminary finalists, warriors and bulldogs were in most top 8, melbourne always figure, played only 2 games at home in 2 months and we play everybody at least once the same as everybody else.
In hindsight cronulla and Newcastle have struggled this year, but others have risen - Gold Coast were very hot, parra have drastically improved. Where is the easy draw?

Only having to play the Roosters, Souths & Manly once.

Not bad only having to play 3 of the top 4 teams once.

Given the way the competition has played out there's no such thing as an easy draw but if you think they haven't received an easier draw than most then you're kidding yourself.

It's not the worst draw. The reason this thread popped up though is because we had a run of 'easy' games. We also actually won them. So people saw Penrith crushing weak teams every week and rising to the top while their team choked on their latte against the Titans. Now they have probably the hardest run home.

Up the Moylans.

And it's continued because Penrth fans can't even concede they have received a pretty good draw. As seen in the post above yours.

Here's some facts;

Of the top 6 teams as the ladder currently stands (Penrith excluded of course);

- Penrith have only had to play 4 games against the top 6 sides in the comp so far
- Penrith haven't won a single game against a top 6 side so far

That's not a bad draw up until this point, not even the most heartened Panthers supporter could disagree with that... or could they?

26 of Penrith's 30 points have come against bottom 8 sides, that's incredible.

2 including Melbourne but yeh we've been pretty poor this year, that's not surprising unfortunately.

Anyway we are both playing all top 8s the last four games. Cowboys, Storm, Warriors and Manly is our run home.

People still going on about us having a supposedly easy draw, when the bulk of the draw is the exact same as other clubs. Anywhere from 19 to 21 of the 24 games are the same as the likes of Souths, Sea Eagles, Roosters and Broncos.

People say we can't beat top 4 teams, yet at the time we beat the Bulldogs. THey were a top 4 team. When we beat the Eels last, they were a top 4 team. Titans were competition leaders the first time we beat them.

Our last win came with 5+ players from our full strength missing and our second choice halfback. When we faced the Bulldogs the week before we were written off as not being able to win another game due to Peter Wallace, Isaac John and Tyrone Peachey being out for the season. We added Bryce Cartwright, Elijah Taylor and Brent Kite to the list during the game and still held on to win, and managed to win the following week with 6 guys unavailable who all would have been picked.

Any wins we get now are pure bonuses considering we have already reached the finals which was our aim at the start of the season, and we have a growing injury list which consists of quality players. We're missing our halfback and captain, his first choice replacement and our 3 best second rowers. Kite isn't really a loss though. I'd take Grant over him in heartbeat.

If some of the teams we beat twice had beaten us they would be in the 8. Dumb thread is still dumb.

Also have any of you considered that Manly's lofty position is only due to the fact they are yet to face the Mighty Moylans?

Hmm if we'd lost to the Doggies twice like we were meant to, we'd be 7th-9th. Then if we'd beaten the Sharks like we should have, we'd be where we are now.
You're right. DUMB f**kIN' THREAD.
