Where do you want to sell it and why?

Is it just to put dots on a map? Let's look at Perth. Why Perth? What has Perth got? A small interest in rugby league. But what else? Is Perth such an economic powerhouse that going without a team going to be detrimental to the NRL? You don't expand just to show off. You expand to expose yourself to more eyes and ultimately more dollars. Is the cost of expansion to a new area like Perth really worth it?

AFL Red alleges that V'landys is beholden to television. If that's the case, wouldn't the TV networks be pushing for a Perth side if they thought it would increase their ability to make money?
This is an excellent post

If it was up to tv they’d have a 14 team comp and pay half!
but there’s only so much even Vlandys can get away with.
is a new market of over 2 million people worth Investing $16million a year in? I guess we will find out.

You always use this line about the 70s because you are obviously very thick. No one has ever said anything about juniors only playing for the first grade team they are geographically close to.

No need to reply I'll do it for you:
Lol. Pokie den. AFL. Perth.
Must troll better. You’ve literally just suggested that If jnrs don’t come from the clubs immediate area then they’re not doing their job properly!

Perth/Western Australia is probably the wealthiest area in Australia and is a market of more than 2 million and growing very fast.

We can talk about other aspects if you will but Rugby League like most things is just a product. It doesn’t really make sense, as a product, not to go where the money is or where the bigger markets are.

Other markets you could potentially look at are probably a second NZ team and maybe another Brisbane team down the track.

Since 1997 the NRL have introduced 3 new products - Melbourne, Gold Coast and Dolphins - and reintroduced 1 - souths.

Not bad going in 25 years when you consider the precipice the league was on post super league.

I think they are the only realistic options as well.

NZ 2 would be as much as a struggle as Perth. Where would you put it? There are no big areas outside of Auckland and the country is as much beholden to Union as WA is to fumbleball.
So if it's economics and population:
Perth 2 million. GDP 2.6 billion.
NZ 5 million, GDP 2.63 billion.

Not much in it.

He’s right about nz2 offering more than Perth

ha ha another ‘The‘ should be able to cover the whole country!
Again, as previously discussed the Dolphins do not have 'The' as part of their name.

I would suggest basing the selection of team 18 based on the name of the side would not be sound business sense

Not much in it.

So the GDP per capita in Perth is twice that of NZ. That would offers more for advertiser and corporates.

Anyway I agree NZ 2 offers heaps and I would like to have them in a competition but the biggest problem I see is where would you put them?

If you put Nz 2 in Auckland you run the risk of weakening or diluting the support the Warriors have which is the exact opposite of what you would want in an expansion.

If you put them in say Christchurch (which I prefer) or Wellington then the question is are these areas big enough to be financially viable.

I would like to see both Perth and NZ 2 essentially and then toss up between Brisbane or even a third NZ side for the 20th side.

I agree. Gold Coast hasn’t stuck yet but it has potential. Melbourne has been profitable at least. We’ll be able to judge the Dolphins in 5-10 years

Club boses wont agree

The the extra is for their management if the players/team costs not player wages
Now is the perfect time to ask clubs to show how much revenue they're able to generate from football operations. Those who generate f**k all should be culled or relocated to a new market. The problem is the deadbeat clubs control the ARLC, so that will never happen. Our game will not grow for this reason.

Why does anyone ever bring up the American College system?

It literally relies on unpaid labour of athletes who would be three years into their professional careers in other countries by the time they hit the draft.

Disgusting system.
The NBL is competing with the NCAA for talent. Players like Lamelo Ball chose the NBL over the NCAA to make their way into the NBA and we're paid in the process.

No, it’s socio economics. reality is RL is still seen by and large as a working clas game. Not every region is working class!

what that means is some clubs will be based in high participation areas and have more cream to bring into their elite pathways systems. for Clubs without that They have to get from other areas.
end of day penrith can only have 25 or so players in their sg ball team, theres nothing wrong with kids who aren’t in that 25 looking for opportunities elsewhere.

arlc job to increase participation, nrl clubs job to take the best and turn them into first graders. Wherever they may come from.
We need academies in Auckland, Brisbane, Caanberra, Perth, Sydney and Townsville to develop players. Over time we could put one in Melbourne.
