Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

V'landys should take the NRL 9s to Singapore and Hong Kong if he's interested in bringing gambling revenue into the game.

Back to back games over two days will provide lots of gambling opportunities.

They can even gamble on which player will be the first to misbehave and get the Singapore cane in public.

PNG isn't happening, and it's definitely not happening as an Australian based team
The plan was to share home games between both port moresby and cairns 6 and 6, as they were an hour flight away, and the mayor of cairns was pushing for his stadium upgrades and also a regular tenant, (be the only 6 games tho) and a good rival for the cowboys, obviously the team would be based in cairns fulltime, much like the split of the dragons, im not sure what the teams banner would be called, i was fond of PNG pride, but being based in Cairns the use of the png name would be moot, maybe just the Vipers (after the port moresby team) not many snake mascots around the nrl

Cairns is Cowboys country and no government is spending $300M on a new stadium only 2 years after building one on Townsville, especially for 6 games of a team representing another country.

It's a non starter of an idea.

Doesn’t sound like they want to be part of the cowboys

sounds like the mayor wants a team of their own

maybe by totally ignoring the area it wasn’t the wisest move for the club

Can Australia support a 20 team competition?

A 12 or 14 team competition would be ideal given our small size. To get down to that we will need to rationalise Sydney. Only a lunatic would advocate for all nine teams in Sydney to remain when all the evidence proves it's unsustainable. We've got the clubs wanting V'landys to give them $5m on top of the salary cap to stay afloat. The weakest clubs are in Sydney and they make up more than 50% of the league, so there's no doubt who is demanding the extra funding.

If V'landys is the master negotiator like his sycophants on here claim then he'll use this as an opportunity to expand the game into new markets. Tell Tigers and Dragons they will only get the extra funding if they both take one game per year to Malaysia and Singapore and rebrand as The Tigers and The Dragons, with the goal being to attract investors from these markets to prop up their inadequate revenue stream from sponsorship and corporate hospitality. "Wests" and "St George" are meaningless names and should have been retired years ago.

cant get clubs in perth and adelaide and taken 25 years to get a second brisbane club again, the idea that the nrl will ever consider a club in png in any of our lifetimes is serious delusion.
People laugh at the idea of promoting our game in south-east Asian countries that speak English and are within the Commonwealth of Nations, yet they want us to put a team in one of the poorest countries on Earth that has systemic violence and corruption. They also want to keep nine clubs in Sydney even though the market cannot support it, yet are against Adelaide and Perth getting teams of their own. God help any business that has these turkeys in charge.

You will find all the clubs are wanting the additional funding though

There will no reduction in the number of Sydney Teams so no use harping on about it - face the facts it won't be happening.

Why on earth would the Tigers and Dragons take games to Malaysia or Singapore though

The name Western Suburbs has been around since 1908 and St George since 1921.

It would be like retiring the New York Yankees name and renaming them the Bronx Stealers or Liverpool and calling them the Anfield Merseyside Reds.

It's the history of the game why the names still continue.

They also want to keep nine clubs in Sydney even though the market cannot support it,

This isnt the 90s. Thanks to the NRLs improved financial state, the clubs are all generating profits now - and yes thats due to larger distributions - but they are entitled to those since the league makes that money off the clubs back in the first place. Memberships are stable if not rising, attendances are improving.

Ive never understood the folks who feel the need to start disposing or moving of clubs in Sydney in the current economic league climate. League thrives on its tribalism.

Brisbane can go. They have been replaced by the Commonwealth of Nations. Home games have so far been agreed on in Mauritius, Gabon, Barbados, Uganda and Malta. The beauty of this team is it will be made up of a different 17 players and assistant coach each week from whichever country it is playing in. Trent Barrett will be head coach to keep some stability and nous.

Already sensing a strong rivalry developing between this team and The Aircraft Carrier which can only benefit the handful of fans that will be in attendance at that particular game.

Thankfully it's not on anyone's agenda, nor is it feasible with the make-up of the commission

I disagree wholeheartedly.

The clubs aren't generating enough money from their football operations to survive. It's why they're running to the ARLC for more money.

How many Sydney clubs would be viable without the annual grant and gaming machine revenue?

Maybe three or four. That's all. There's no guarantee gaming machine revenue will be around forever.

Most Sydney clubs play out of stadia that's not up to standard. They won't move to a centralised location like SFS or Parramatta Stadium. They're not getting brand new stadia built for them by the NSW Gov. These clubs are going to fall further behind the Broncos, Cowboys, Titans, Eels, Roosters and Storm because their small grounds lack the facilities to generate strong revenue from sponsorship and corporate hospitality. The bigger clubs won't want these strugglers holding them back and will eventually fight for a larger share of revenue from the ARLC or will form their own competition. Don't be surprised if Roosters, Eels, Panthers and possibly Rabbitohs join the Broncos, Cowboys, Dolphins, Storm, Titans, Warriors and Raiders form a new elite league within the next 10 to 15 years.

The UN out of a good will gesture have purchased a new aircraft carrier- Due to limited number of spectators that can attend the game in person (50) - the tickets to the game will be auctioned off each week prior to the game.

Special rules will apply for the games played on the aircraft carrier - no kicking for touch or goal and tries are worth 6 points

Also this new Elite League may want to consult with UK Ice Hockey to make sure we're not going to get our pants sued off for copyright

This is why cool heads are needed to steer the game not these renegades with their big ideas that will ultimately destroy the sport.
