They make it sound like we are the ones deciding this bid

there’s literally been a million articles about this and obviously the pm wants it

every time a new article comes out it’s the same whining every time

all the points raised are reasonable but the NRL aren't going to not do their homework.

No, I'm reacting to blow-ins with no clue making spectacular leaps of faith based on a rumour and attempting to present it as a fait accompli.
So vlandys and albo know less than some rando cowboys fans on the internet ? Lmao

So why does a PM want it so much?

It feels more like a political play for PNG support against a expanding China, so we dont have another Solomon Is situation
Exactly

soft diplomacy and pretty cheap too

whatever his reasons are the money benefits rugby league

you are literally over reacting about a rumour though
Like i said salty as... its fair enough most disagree with the idea of the bid, most disagree and say that there is atleast 5 better areas or atleast 2 solid bids ahead of it, but the reality is there are articles that are speculating heavily that the arlc are wanting this ahead of other areas, purely to increase the player pool and before anyone says well how many have come from png.
I say this, there have only been a few clubs who even bother to look or scout in that country, i mean why would you, they are a third world country, but if you can set up a pathway away from the country and get elite training at a young age here in Australia, then they'll have a production line ready to add to the player pool,
We keep harping on about where are these great hunters since theyve been around for a decade, well they aren't getting the training kids in Townsville, Brisbane or Penrith get, so they are already at a disadvantage, and if you want to recruit from the UK or US your looking at athletes that are not really invested in the game at a young age, as much as the papuans are, so theres the care factor that also helps

There was a recent elite schoolboys carnival in png

not a single Aussie scout turned up

Most are commenting on how it would work as it is in the news. Cows fans are carrying on like we are cheer girls for it

Have you not read the posts of the person you are responding to? He's carrying on as if it will be bigger than Manchester United.

I love the conceit that the pro-Gov slush fund crowd are claiming they have been entirely reasonable in this discussion.
Name us another carrot you can give the PNG govt, to not let china build a military base on their soil... this is a drop in the ocean that gets sent to them as foreign aid anyways, its not like it costs us any more, its just diverted towards a purpose, a big fk off carrot theyve always wanted, and you're carrying on like the png team just landed on your doorstep and raped your neighbour.... 4 hours away

Yeah, keep telling yourself that if you can't defend your specious arguments. Still doesn't make it true.

Its not Rugby League's role to get involved in overseas diplomacy or geo-politics, so I don't give two shits about a base. We let China lease the Darwin port now anyway.

Unless the government funding is for ever, it will cost the game money in the future.

How about something useful to the 40% of people below the poverty line.

No because things evolve. PNG standards will improve eventually, personally I'd have them
as Team 20 but you see 2023 conditions being the same as 2040

It should be, though and its an excellent way to spread the good word. If the whole world loved rugby league, there would be no war.
