Just a reminder for what Hughes did to the mob we're playing now just 3 short years ago.

Phil Hughes 115 v RSA. 1st innings of the 2nd test of the 2009 series:

Phil Hughes 160 v RSA. 2nd innings of the same test:

That was a record making feat.

He never should have been dropped in the 2009 Ashes. He is the biggest talent in the country and should have been persevered with. Instead we're picking mediocrity ahead of him.

A generation ago we were smart enough to identify Test caliber talent and stick with it. That's why we built the greatest cricket team in history. If Steve Waugh played in this era he never would have got to 25 tests.

f**k off Cowan and Quiney. Pick the talent. Pick Hughes. Pick Khawaja. And stick with them.

Shall we bring up reminders what Mitch Johnson did to South AAfrica years ago as well, and demand he be back in the side?

Ok he shouldn't replace Cowan but Warner (no score above 50 in his last half dozen tests) and Ponting should be close to their last chance. And if Watson isn't back by the next test he should be played ahead of Quiney.

His last 5 tests:

8, 28, 42, 22, 29, 17, 50, 11, 4.

Hughes has been dropped for a smaller run of poor form than that.

On the other hand there were players who we identified but didn't stick with initially... Hayden, Langer and Martyn come to mind. Didn't end up too badly for them.

He has the talent and he'll definitely be back, he just needs to work on tightening his game for the top level.
