I'd be picking Khawaja ahead of Hughes at this stage but Hughes is scoring runs and I love it.
Hughes is scoring more of them at a higher average. But Hughes and Khawaja are the two best shield batsmen this season.

If I was selector Hughes would be in the team now for either Quiney or Ponting and Khawaja would be at the head of the queue for Warner and Cowan. Both only have 1 innings of note in recent times and if either don't score by the end of the summer Khawaja replaces them.

But one way or another they're both 10 year 100 test players.

Doesn't matter. Hughes has more to work on in regards to his technique. Given his trouble we need to be 100% sure he is over his demons. Warner and Cowan are safe. They will open for us in the Ashes.

If Warner doesn't get runs between now and the end of the summer he'll have exactly 1 score above 50 in his last 10 test. Hughes and Khawaja were both dropped for far less failure.

Ponting and Quiney should go now. If Warner and Cowan don't have at least 1 more decent score in the next 4 tests they should go too. That's plenty of time.

Hughes is 1st in line, Khawaja second. Depending on Watsons fitness I'd have them both in the team in Perth.

Seriously? If my hypothetical plays out, both of them will have gone 10 tests with just 1 score above 50 each. Neither should have a seat on the plane to England in that event. Not even close. Their centuries have bought them this summer. Nothing more. They need more runs.

In my view only 3 players should have their bags packed for England from our top 6. Clarke, Hussey and Watson. And Watson is no guarantee to be in one piece between now and then.

Would love to see him score a few more runs in shield cricket and then be brought into the Aussie ODI team. He is a fantastic one day batsmen. Once he does well there I'd bring him back into the test team.

Highest run scorer in Shield and second highest scorer in limited overs. He belongs in the conversation for both teams.

How's it feel to be on the right side of an argument for once bm?
Uncomfortable.:? Not used to it.

Also how funny is it that NSW let Hughes and Khawaja go because we supposedly had too much batting talent. Now they're the 2 best shield batsman in the country and NSW is coming 2nd last...

So BM hates Warner, eh? Good. He's my favourite current cricketer. Almost guarantees he'll go on to be a legend.

I think some would be surprised with how many people want Warner dropped. He will always be a rock or diamonds type player but the key for him is to be more inconsistent and get plenty of scores that contribute. We would be nuts to drop Warner. I wouldn't be surprised if he was next captain.

I would be, we need someone with half a brain to run the team, not a bogan who can't string a sentence together.

Bit unfair on Warner. He goes alright with the media. I have never noticed him stuttering or being unable to talk when doing a press conference.

Pleb, they were let go because the Cricket Australia contract list went from 25 to 16 or so, suddenly NSW had a heap more players than they could afford, not to mention both needed a fresh start. NSW couldnt afford them, best for both parties.

Hughes out for 158. Fantastic knock from him. Takes him to the front of the queue. Hopefully he plays in Perth or at the very latest the 1st test of the Sri Lanka series.

I don't hate him at all. He's in my long term test team. I think he's another that will play 100 tests. All I'm saying is if by the end of the summer he has a grand total of one score above 50 in his last TEN tests, he should be dropped. I'd say that for Hughes and anyone else aswell.

Hughes played #3 in County cricket. Lets not forget Hussey started out as an opener. He made his debut there at Test level.

If you're good enough to open you're good enough to bat in the middle order unless you have some major weakness against spin. Hughes does not. He can bat anywhere in the top 6.

No. NSW could have let someone else go. Farcical to let two major talents go when you have an XI that's making you come second last.
