Highest run scorer in Shield and second highest scorer in limited overs. He belongs in the conversation for both teams.

Should come in at first drop with Watson in at 4.

Khawaja is our next long term opener, he technically is Australians best young batsmen batsmen and could play a Langer type roles for year to come (depending on how long cowan lasts)

Usman, should be playing in Adelaide. f**king Quiney.

Hughes, needs to wait Cowan and Warner have done enough. He is making runs, which is great.

I am actually liking the idea of Warner down the order in tests, and get him to spin bowling coach.

No. NSW could have let someone else go. Farcical to let two major talents go when you have an XI that's making you come second last.
It was clearly because the cricket australia contracts were scaled back though, they couldnt afford to suddenly take up Smith Bolinger Khawaja and Hughes contracts all at once. Hughes and Khawaja wanted to leave made it an even easier decision, especially considering both players attitudes in the back half of last season.

NSW will just keep developing other players, it's what they've done for 130 years

^^

For sure, NSW cannot keep them all.

Usman and Phil have done the right thing.

They will be back for AUS

I'm not saying NSW can keep them all. I'm saying they should have made a better decision on who to keep. How about getting rid of one of their batsman that are not the 1st and 2nd leading run scorers in Shield cricket. Hughes and Khawaja should have been among the first picked for NSW, not the ones to go.

From what i've been reading,Hughes has started to play an effective pull shot,& that was always my big issue with his technique..

If he keeps putting up the numbers he has been this year, then he'll be back in contention before too long..

Out for 73. Averageing 90+ in 50 over cricket.

Put your house on him being in both Aussie teams by the end of the summer.

Klinger probably moved up a few pegs for mine. Is next in line after Khawaja for the Test & ODI team IMO

Troll. Hughes is highest shield runscorer and 2nd highest one day runscorer. He has done more than enough.

Proper domestic cricket ends for 6 weeks for the Big bash stupidity. That's good because Hughes has got to the front of the line and when you're at the front of the line there's no place to go but down. So the status quo is good for Hughes. Ponting fails tomorrow and Hughes is in the team.
