Phil Hughes averages 0.66 runs per innings in his last 3 test innings

Horrible numbers from a world class pretender

His average against 'pace' is so good because they never get a chance to bowl to him. It's near impossible to get out to a pace bowler in Indian conditions
They never get a chance to bowl to him and yet he has scored 40+ in 3 of his last 4 tests.

And he got 70 odd runs against one of the best quick bowling attacks in the world in the 1st test.

yeah the innings where he played 2nd fiddle to ashton agar. he should be thanking that no.11 for taking full control while the supposed 'batsman' sat at the other end and let the supposed 'bunny' do all the work.

I rate Phil Hughes because I'm a stupid idiot and don't know anything about cricket. Obviously Steve Waugh is in that boat too?
Steve Waugh has warned fans demanding an immediate resurgence of the national team's fortunes that Australia might never again dominate the world as they did under his, Mark Taylor's and Ricky Ponting's captaincies.
Australia have showed glimpses of promise despite being outplayed by England in the current series. Waugh said talent was coming through the domestic system but felt history was against ''freakish'' eras being repeated
''We may never regain the glory days we had, that was pretty much a freakish era,'' Waugh said. ''If you look at the West Indies, they dominated 10 years before us and [then] we did it. I don't think you'll see a team do that again because there's three forms of the game which means your players will be split up.
''It's hard to be consistent across all those forms and, mentally, players are going to be tired if they're playing the three forms.''

Waugh, who has just launched his book The Meaning of Luck, was also adamant the selectors needed to show faith in Michael Clarke's men.
''We have to be patient,'' he said. ''I keep saying to people I didn't score a century until my 26th Test [and] I wasn't part of a win until my 13th Test.
''I saw Steve Smith being bagged today that he'd only had two wins out of his first 11 Tests … well, I had none out of 13! We've got to remember you can't always be successful straight away and we have to give these guys a bit of leeway.''
He said the criticism Phillip Hughes was subjected to, and the intense scrutiny Usman Khawaja endured, was negative.
''Phil Hughes has been dropped three times already in his career but he's scored centuries,'' Waugh said. ''He's got 23 first-class hundreds, the guy can obviously play, but we keep messing around with his head. [In] the last four Tests he's played three innings … [that] have been great.''

Patience. Waugh would never have gone to acheive the things he did if he was coming up now because no selector is brave enough to show some guts and be patient with the right players.

Waugh could bowl

Hughes can't do either
Steve Waugh who knows more about cricket than everyone on this forum combined thinks he can bat well enough to be in the team.

Steve Waugh thinks Hughes performed well in 3 of his last 4 tests.

For the 2nd time him getting dropped has been completely unjustified. For the 2nd time he has been given less chances than many less talented and less productive players have been given.

Lol, BM has got to be fast running out of straws.

if we compared every batsmen to Steve Waugh's start, then Quiney & Cowan would still be in the team.

Hughes was interviewed on Foxsports News this morning

"I've been batting well in the nets but at the end of the day its what you do in the middle that counts"

About f**king time someone said it. Good on him.

I could imagine Langer talking with Hughes

PH: How do I bat against spin?
JL: It's just a ball. It has no mind. It's just an object which you can overpower with your mind. Don't think like a ball. Think like a bat that wants to hit a ball.
PH: But a bat has no mind either.
JL: Exactly. You as a human have a mind, so if you think like a bat, you'll become a bat with a mind.
PH: Like a fruit bat?
