Meh. Don't care about the ODI team.

What I do care about is PH has been made captain of the Australia A team for their next game. They would not be wasting a precious international leadership position for someone who had no future at the top level. They clearly see him as a big of our test teams future.

The next captain of Australia always is someone who has been IN THE FIRST XI for a number of years before being anointed.

Captaincy for A sides is more a token gesture ...
"sorry champ, your not quite good enough to make the XI ever again so heres the "c" next to your name anyway as a little reward for the runs your getting in these b-grade"

The following is a quote from somebody who knows more about cricket than the lot of you put together:

He's got a bright future. He's a 100-Test player in my opinion. He's just got to get an opportunity now and I'm sure he'll grab it with both hands. But I think in 10 years from now, we'll be talking about Phillip Hughes as one of those players to play 100 Test matches for Australia. He's got the talent, he's got the work ethic."

You know as a Parramatta supporter I used to agree with everything the great Peter Sterling would say. Cause you know, he knows more about RL than anyone on these forums. Some of his predictions

"Wayne Pearce will go on to become one of the great club coaches" - FAIL

"Peter Jackson will go on to captain Australia" - FAIL

"Tim Smith, the future is in safe hands" (regards to Parramatta finally finding a decent long term no7) -FAIL

I would take Clarkes comments about Hughes with a grain of salt. If Hughes was that good hed be in the side already. Not getting picked in the 14 man ODI is a good omen as well

Clarke is a close friend of Hughes he will always stick by him. As Clarke is is no longer a member of the selection panel his opinion of Hughes is not a deciding factor, if it was boof talking him up that would be different but Boof dropped Hughes and Cowan pretty quickly as soon as he took over.

There's a difference between not publicly bagging him and talking him as a 100 test player.

Clark after the 2013 SCG test (beating a depleted SL side) declared proudly, and I quote "2013, the year of the Australian cricket team"

Within 8 months of that comment, we went on to lose the ashes 3-0 and hammered in India 4-0

His puplic comments go pear shape as well

I don't think Phil Hughes will get an opportunity for the upcoming tests against Pakistan. He may get an opportunity at some stage in our Summer tests. I think Australia will probably give Alex Doolan another chance.

In the top 7 batting places there will obviously be Warner, Rogers, Watson, Clarke, Smith and Haddin we just need to fill another spot. There just isn't enough batsman coming through who are ready to put some pressure on for batting positions.

I do see more upside in Hughes though over Khawaja, Marsh and Cowan.

Shane Watson steps on a ball at training and sprains his ankle. Will be replaced by Phil Hughes in Australia's ODI tour of Zimbabwe #cricket

Rogers isn't "obvious". Nor is Doolan. And Watson is injured again.
