hewitt got what he deserved.

Runner up in a grand slam final and ranked no 2 in the world, 15 million dollars in prizemoney and plenty more in endorsements.... hmmmm I bet there are plenty who would be quite happy with that

He'd sleep well......

He lost a US open too.

I'm sure he isn't happy about it but I'm also sure he'll be back next year with the same people writing him off. Sure, he is brash, outspoken and speaks with the brain in neutral sometimes but he is winning - same can't be said for anyone else in singles competition for Australia outside of Alicia Molik. I'd rather support him than the other trumped up playboy masquerading as a tennis player.

Bad luck to Hewitt. He's a hard bloke to figure out. Anyone who has played a decent standard of tennis can tell you he's a shocking sport ON the court. If I was playing someone like that, i'd crack the mighty shits. After a match he is a brilliant sport. Genuinely happy for the other guy, if dissapointed himself. I guess he just gets caught up in the heat of the moment. He should find a different outlet for it though - doing what he did to that line judge last night is unacceptable imo.

I cant believe some of you clowns thought that Roddick was a chance of beating Hewitt. Roddick is all just power and no brains at the moment. And Hewitt will beat that kind of player 99/100 times on this kinda rebound ace surface. Thats why i put $20 on him @$2.60 and got a sweet $50 back.

Good call. I put 50 on Hewitt. Roddick is an absolute non event currently. Really needs to develop a backhand, and some idea of how to construct a point.

he didnt just lose a US open, he was HAMMERED. What was there, a couple of 6-0s in there?
Federer treated Hewitt as if he was a club player from the suburbs.
The last 2 sets last night Safin almost repeated the dose.

Yes he was HAMMERED in the US Open. As a much better judge of player however, I value Jim Courier's assessment when he said that now being ranked no 2 in the world it was a good reflection of how well Hewitt has played since that match. It is Federer first, daylight and then Hewitt - no-one will disagree with that, not even the blokes who know. The law of averages suggested that at some stage Federer had to lose and Safin did well to beat him.

Last night however, Safin was hammered in the first set, won the second set unconvincingly and played well in the third after one stage being 3 - 1 down. He played exceptionally well in the fourth set..... but he didn't hammer Hewitt anywhere near as bad as what Federer did. IMO pressure and his own mouth got to Hewitt but as the first Australian since Pat Cash to make an Oz Open then I applaud his efforts.

Many would argue if Safin can play consistently he is a vastly superior player to hewitt.

He showed last night that he can play better when his mind is on the job, which early in the set it wasn't. Consistently he should be better than Hewiit however on consistency Hewitt is the better player at the moment.

If you value Couriers opinion then you'll agree with him when he says Safin is undoubtably the 2nd best player in the world.

After last nights match yes Safin would and should be the no 2 in the world. Based on rankings though he isn't. Courier's comment on Hewitt was made during the first set - I'm sure it would have changed towards the end.

He was 22 when he called a disabled line judge a spastic

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. On two occassions he used the word "spastic" in reference to an umpire and a linesman - neither were disabled.

One linesperson was.

And he's called 19 different umpires/linesperson(that I recall) spastics. The one that got the most publicity was the disabled one, the 2nd most publicised one was in a Grand Slam.

Care to share the details?

Still waiting on the 19 instances BTW.....

He just pointed and stared at him and yelled something like "Come On" I think. Not very good after winning the point I must admit.

Nice way to divert the attention from your choking habit, Lleyton.
He doesnt choke. He just gets outplayed. He cant compete against Safin and Federer when they are playing their best because their shots off the ground are vastly superior. Hewitt cant handle the constant pace and consistency of the shots. Safin and Federer have taken the game to a new level and counterpunchers like Agassi and Hewitt wont stand a chance when they are at their best.

   Are you being sarcastic there Colonel? You dont really think he said 'come on' to the linesman that called him foot fault?? It would have been more like 'next time use your f**king eyes you f**king dickhead'. Its amazing how just when you think he is improving he comes out with an outburst like that.

Did you watch the game?

I did - he pointed, yelled something short and stared.

It may have been "Use your eyes" or "wake up". I didn't think any of it was appropriate however....
