firstly it’s to take advantage of money from the federal govt which isn’t available otherwise

and people say png won’t be desireable place for players to live

cairns feel a bit neglected by the cowboys

even if it hurt the cowboys a bit overall it’s still a winner

Much better the NRL puts a take it or leave it on the table and says they have to be based in Wellington. Not that that's a great idea either.

so what they recovered

if it makes a png team more viable then bad luck for the cowboys for neglecting cairns for so long

Do you know how many members or corporate support they get from Cairns?

Problem is when the Govt funding dries up who pays for the PNG club then? Cairns certainly cant. At least in Wellington a Pacifika club has some chance of sustainability.

you don’t know how many mining companies will get Behind them

when the cowboys were admitted to the comp the were a basket case now they are a powerhouse

who knows how strong a png nrl team will be in 30 years

it’s a gift to set up that club for life

Adelaide is more of a third world country than png

there’s nothing stopping them moving the team if the money dries up from the govt that’s a fair point

Given its lack of value to tv, in fact turn off for tv, we wont see any extra uplift in tv income there for NRL, add the need for an NRl club to be generating $15-20mill in FC operations a year to be sustainable beyond other funding then youd better hope it is more and that its for a lot longer if you really are advocating for this lol

Between $18mill NRL grant and at least $10mill in missing revenue ability $30mill for 25 years would need to be the minimum.

Cowboys have developed their following in the region over the past 25-30 years and deserve to keep it.

It's not even a team.

It's team that represents another country and culture playing 4 games in Cairns.

It's a third of a team.

It's easily the most ill thought out idea in RL history.

Even noted LU crazies couldn't come up with something as warped as a side representing 5 or more countries playing in a small regional centre* (*some of the time)

the thing is albo is basically funding expansion for us
