Just because your poor club couldnt afford him
Poor? Our offer was higher than anyone elses except yours, your fat wanker of an owner reckons he can buy a premiership. I'd put money on the Knights not winning a premiership in the next 3 years. The culture, evident in this article, is not premiership winning culture.
Bitter wanker

Oh I forgot, you got McGuire who won a premiership in England. OH NOEZ :sarcasm:
Maguire* won a premiership in England, he almost went back to back. He won a cup aswell. He broke a more than decade long drought, in his very first season. His references include none other than Craig Bellamy, Matty Johns, Stephen Kearney and numerous players he has worked with.

Michael Maguire will win a premiership at Souths before Wayne Bennett wins one at Newcastle. Mark my words.

Can a mod just bookmark this post for easy access?

It will be useful next time a newbie ask "why does everyone lol@50uff$?'.

Those last two sentences in particular are gold. The only thing that would have made it funnier is a "we got this".

Won a premiership in 1997 with a drug culture....

Our dual premiership winning halfback has publically said he had a problem with drugs.

Maybe Souths need to try some things...

Your slightly less fat wanker of an owner is the only reason you can call yourself Bunniesman and not WasaBunniesMan so id say nothing if i were you.

You can really tell the people in this thread who live behind their keyboards... they're all the ones that think drug use is uncommon, or that the few knights boys aren't representative of society.

Most of society isn't paid a few hundred thousand a year. These guys are not representative of any society other than pro footy players.

Drug use is prevelent in people 18 - 35 but footy players get shiploads of education on what is expected of them by the NRL in regards to drug use. If these guys want to use drugs that is cool with me but the NRL has a different view. Either give up footy and do what you please or stay off the drugs and continue to play. If you get caught though don't blame anyone else but yourself. They all knew the risks

Agree. It's also in every NRL contract & they players are paid to do what is expected of them I really don't care what they do in their private lives but who wants to watch a game played by people who don't treat their employment for the opportunity it is...if they haven't got the brains or the ability to differentiate when to use, they get what they deserve eventually

Horseshit. Earning money doesn't instantly remove you from society. That's one of the stupidest things i've ever read.

So who are their peers ?

Tell me what other members of society get the cash these guys get ? They are not regular members of society. As part of the conditions of their employment it is pretty clear that drugs won't be tolerated. That is the society they are part of not your average Joe earning 30 - 50k a year.

The NSW captain is named in an article about drugs.. Forget which clubs are worse off, drugs in our game make us look bad. Sure it happens in every sport but this article isn't about the others.. It is about a rugby league team.

"Horseshit". Paul Gallen did no such thing.

Makes you wonder how the hell the case against Houston was dismissed.
Clearly the evidence regarding Houston's 150 pills was enough to lock Wicks up, so why not Houston too?

I heard Gidley mentioned by an off duty Police Officer way back when Houston was arrested, so that part doesn't shock me.

But really, Aku & Gids?
BIG names. They don't get bigger in Newcastle.
Surely the club has (or at least had) concerns.

The issue with recreational drugs is quite simple, dont get caught
no one could honestly think that its not rife amongst all clubs, and in fact all codes... and in fact anywhere where young the mid 20 year olds are... if you're an elite sportsman, its simple, dont get caught.

If 100 NRL and AFL players used recreational drugs each weekend and id imagine that would be a massive understantment, you'd be lucky to get 1% of them caught... dont be in the stupid one to get pinched

There is a difference between possession and supplying though and that's why Joey got a slap on the wrist and Wicks is facing prison time. Best way to not get caught would be to avoid trying to source 150 pills and then passing them on to your mates.

From what I heard the tapped phone records for whatever reason were admissable in Wick's case not admissable in the case against Houston. Must be a legal loophole or he cut a deal.

Just like that kid that stabbed a guy at a petrol station was let off because he admitted guilt to his teacher, but the teacher didn't warn him of his legal rights?

Surely the cases of Wicks and Houston are linked. So one would assume that the evidence should be admissable in both.
From what I can see and what I have heard, it seems that the Police buggered up the case.

Now now! Settle down.
You sound like a little kid who won't share his lollies.

It's not a matter of "getting away with it", it's more the cover up and denials that are the problem.

If those who "got away with it" have been hauled over the coals for it, then the culture is being attended to. If it was all swept under the carpet, as it appears, then the Knights have some big issues.

Haven't heard of that one but you'd think it was something similar. Could even be the legalities in regards to phone tapping. There'd have to be some sort of warrant involved with that and they may only have had a warrant to tap Wicks phone and not Houston. Either way someone in the police or prosecution must have did something unauthorised and any good lawyer would find a way to use it against them to get their client off.
