Potter gone - OFFICIAL

Hang on, the Tele has been the only media outlet adamant there was an issue between Farah and Potter. Potter and Farah have stated that there was no issues between them.

I'm not going to take the DT opinion over words that came from the horses mouths.

Farah stated that he didn't want any involvement in who the coach is for 2015.

How can anything be falling in to place for him when he removed himself from any involvement in the place where the said things are falling into?

Ok fair enough. Lets just see if Todd Payten gets the job before I say another thing on Farah.

if any Tigers fan wants Payten as head coach they need their head examined. possibly a worse option them those muppets that want sheens back.

only way to salvage this situation is to go with Folkes. all other coaching options have massive question marks.

HOOPER: But surely you have to concede this was your decision, you made a recommendation to the new board?

MAYER: None of my decisions have been based upon independent thought. It has always been in consultation with the right people at this organisation. We stick by that.

Who are the right people? “We” stick by that.

Why does the CEO have to consult anybody when it come to decisions?
I wish Hooper dug deeper on that.

I wasn't talking about fans, I was talking about certain players who may want their mate to coach them. Ex team mates as coach may be fun but we know what that leads to.
Don't forget that he also coached the young guys coming up to grand final success.
Yes that's a plus in some isntances but leads to good old boys club culture all over again.

Todd should be booted entirely and not considered an option at all.
I'm just afraid player power might win.

Because our CEO has no balls to run the club.

That much has been evident.

Folkes has the analytical brain required to organise good attacking plays and defensive structures.

He understands health/recovery/training etc

He is also stern enough to keep control of shit that invariably always arises here.

He needs to have his own assistants and full control of the club.

I'd hire him for 3 seasons with a view to moving him into a coaches director role afterwards.

I agree completely. However, I haven't heard his name get mentioned once in relation to getting the coaching job anywhere other than these forums. Is it wishful thinking and simply never going to happen ?

Would Folkes be more suited to the football GM role than head coach? He's been out of the (head) coaching game for a while.

apparently someone said Paul Kent mentioned it on the radio today that Folkes was the frontrunner.

he's been around as an assistant coach in the NRL so I'd have no doubts that he'd be able to slip into the role seamlessly.

I do see him as an overseer of coaching operations in the future though.

Folkes 2004 title is tainted in my eyes due to the Dogs basically fielding the same team as when they got busted for rorting the cap earlier. Griffin was coach at the Broncos for 4 years and missed the Top 8 twice and this year they got thrashed by the Cowboys and eliminated first week. If you can't succeed at the most cash up club in the NRL you probably won't succeed at the most cash strapped. Michael Hagan won a premiership with the Knights in 2001 and was assistant coach with the Maroons during their 8 series win streak. Would he be a possibility? I know things didn't end well with his tenure with the Eels but he has a legitimate premiership .

If Flanno isn't allowed to coach the Sharks in 2015, I can see Potter slotting into that role. He is within the Sharks price range in any case.

Well its all falling into place for Farah.
Todd is getting talked up now and if is appointed I'll lay that directly at Farah picking the coach and Mayer a toothless cat.
This is embarrassing to watch unfold.

You seriously have a grudge against Farah. He is the heart and soul of our team. Nobody puts in harder than him and his leadership is as good as it gets.

He wasn't given the Blues Vice Captaincy and shoe-in for Blues Hooker for no reason

Heard this story and found it amusing, Brian Smith fate was sealed at the Roosters when on several occasions Politis took a number of NRL players to lunch to find how they felt about playing under Smith, and ask them one simply question...'What type of defence do we have,up and in or slide? 'The players answers were varied, suggesting they had no f**king idea what Smith was trying to implement as coach. Then there is that other image of Brian trying to get his point across to the players by demonstrating with cups or water bottles in the dressing room about structures.Surely he can not be given the job, seriously the WT will end up a bigger basket case then they are now !

Smith and Sheens are the coaches you get when you need a shake up and a clean out.

We've been through that already. we are on the building a dynasty stage and need a tactician as coach more than anything.

Smith is about as tactically brilliant in the modern game as I am on any aspect of AFL.

His time has passed him by, he's nothing more than a glorified commentator now.

I feel sorry for Potter- he was handed a hospital pass at the start of his tenure at WT and it continued to dog him the entire time. Prima donna heading the player group, a boys club atmosphere, the 'in crowd' and 'the others', a poisonous club and board atmosphere with intercene warfare between 3 groups - Wests Ashfield, Wests Campbelltown & Balmain, a CEO whose trust level seems to have been guarded at best, assistant coaching staff not supporting him, limited to no say in player recruitment and retention, a playing roster with too many overpaid but underperforming 'stars' and battling the other residual effects of Sheens & Noyce's reign.

He deserved another couple of years but the writing was on the wall from the mid season attempted coup and the resultant teams implosion. Go with your head held high Mick, you tried but your hands were manacled too tightly to have a fair shot at things. Thanks for your efforts.

BTW- the new coaching director role. I find it somewhat ironic but I feel that role would have been ideal for Sheens if so many bridges had not been burnt in the interim. Any one else think the same?

Potter was always going to be the sacrificial lamb to do the dirty work. Thought that when he signed on.

I actually got to like and respect the guy during his tenure and the way he was punted was a disgrace.

Signing Folkes would make me happy thoough

I would like to see Warren Ryan brought back to League as the Head Of Football Operations.
Head coach Anthony Griffin or Jason Taylor.

I would also brig in Steve Folkes as an Assistant Coach and punt Payten and Kidwell. It also opens a succession plan should one of the coaches fail.

Got great respect for Folkes, hard man but a fair man, in saying that, I am not sure he is the man to be head coach in 2015, lot of years have passed by since the glory days at the dogs

It's parish. The wests blokes are putting their old boys club together. They had a lash for their stalwart Steve ghosn with Laurie friar as assistant but they're waiting for the weatherman to provide guidance and the masters apprentices bassist to come down off an LSD trip
