Yes, and as a Kiwi it was embarrassing...visiting fans from Oz stayed to the bitter end
We stayed to the end... And got some good photos with the Cowboys players...

I can tell you there weren't many OZ fans around... Well not where the presentation was anyway...

If its that tenuous that people don't turn up because Jamie Soward isn't named then maybe NZ is not the place for it to be held.
Well a NZ Company came up with the concept, pitched it to the clubs and ultimately bankrolled it...

So if it didn't happen in NZ... It would never have happened...

The Wellington sevens would continue to go selling out in 2 minutes...

Look, the simple fact is that NRL coaches and even NRL players dont faking promote this code.
If this was Rugby Union or AFL with these faking events, they would be cheering and promoting them from the rooftops.
Here is a couple of comments it have heard just in one day from a coach and player.
"It's a micky mouse event, hope my players dont get hurt. "
"The nines can prevent you from winning the NRL premiership". ??
For fakes sake, this is why this code is so backward.
Now imagine of Union or the AFL was running this type of event. They would be promoting it, not demoting the faking thing like our clubs seem to do.

Anyone unavailable should not be allowed to play Origin, or test matches. You watch them play then, and up the prize money to 5 million, ???

Marketing and promotion, no code does it worse than the NRL.

All you read all faking week is another superstar not playing, another superstar pulls out. I mean gee faking whiz, why announce them to play if they are going to pull out. It just makes our code look cheap, unprofessional and backward,,,,what it is really.

I don't advocate punishing individual players... As it was the club who agreed to the conditions.

But I must admit I get pissed off with some of the top kangaroos complaining that this event adds to burnout...

Considering that they just turned a GB Lions tour down to have the next summer completely off...

The point I was trying to make, facetiously, is that is not as tenuous as the poster makes it.

It was an outstanding success last year and I expect will be this year at all.

And that its a bit crazy to say that because 2 teams (out of 16) are perceived to have field weak squads that the whole thing is finished and over as a concept.

So in short, I'm agreeing with you.

Isn't that last point completely contradictory of the first one?

Im sure it wasn't the players that made the decision about whether to tour or not?

its in its second year, of course it's tenuous.

1 year of good crowds does not build up a loyal fanbase whatsoever.

its about numerous fans not turning up to watch U20s battle it out under the guise of fully professional teams. i mean look at the tigers/storm squad, i can barely recognise anyone on either team as a regular first grader (and im a tigers fan)

So who out of the Tigers Squad do you believe should be playing but isn't?

Nofoaluma, Moses, Brooks, Galloway, Halatau, Sironen and Lodge.

I haven't checked the injury status, but I expect all to be ready for Round 1 and most for our trials.

and thats after removing all 4 nations players, which hasnt stopped some other clubs but fair enough for JT to rest them.

Nofoaluma, Halatau, and Sironen all in the rehab squad atm. Moses had offseason surgery. Brooks playing All Stars the following week, I think 1 micky mouse game is enough to risk him in. Lodge has been stood down from training. So out of your list the only player who is not out with a reason is Galloway a large, slow Front Rower who would add absolutely nothing to the 9's. lol

Yeah the AFL have done wonders with their State of Origin concept. League needs to pull its socks up.

Its these f**king coaches like Bellamy that destroy tournaments like this. It happened with the sevens as well. Fine him and take away all of his premierships.

If the NRL took $160k of potential earnings out of my pocket I'd be pretty pished. I wonder if they asked the players if they were burnt out to the tune of that much?
