You're living in a fantasy world if you think the Lions have made strong inroads. Playing numbers for it are so abysmal AwFuL bribes kids into undertaking Auskick by buying them McDonald's and gives away free football boots and free registration to the few kids who join a club. That's not the sign of a healthy sport that has won over the public.
The game is never broadcast on the main channel and TV ratings for it are shit. When I channel surf and flick the remote onto 7mate while the Lions are playing I see nothing but empty seats, yet you expect me to believe they're making inroads?
The only area it has seen growth is in the GPS schools that have banned RL.
The Lions lose millions of dollars each year, hence the reason they set up the Lions@Springwood club. I only know one Queenslander who follows the game. She's a physio and says people think she's a Victorian because she watches AwFuL. Does that sound like a city that has embraced AwFuL? They wouldn't assume a person who watches AwFuL must be from Victoria if the game is embraced by the general community, would they?
Everyone else I know wouldn't be able to name the 18 AwFuL clubs. If you think AwFuL having a whopping total of 2 clubs in Logan, when they used to have 3 but had to close Logan City Cobras due to lack of players is making strong inroads, I wouldn't want you running my business.
