Adelaide had huge crowds in their first season - averaged over 15k. South Australians are the most parochial people in the nation. A team there would work.
I agree, but they'll be the nay sayers here who would say, where are the juniors, pathways and 1st graders come from?

If there's a vacuum the mercs will fill it.
And in all instances of expansion (barr storm), from 1935 upwards every new club came in either last or 2nd last, so history says any of these clubs will start at rock bottom, so don't expect a new brissy club to set records in its first year.. Expansion isnt about overnight success, cowboys are proof of this 1st decade being bottom of the ladder, next decade trying to make finals, and 05 made GF, then in 2015 actually winning a GF, that's what all new clubs will have go thru, storm were an exception due to news money, and 3 clubs folding prior, along with every advantage that could be given

Juniors can be fixed. Problem is it takes money and very likely will involve putting said juniors into QLD or NSW Comps

Does this mean AwFuL will rig it so the Lions make the final?

The last thing they would want is thousands of empty seats. It would be a PR disaster.
They
West Coast no more home games or chance of a Prelim, I'd assume it be the same for Port Adelaide. They are doing their best to rule out teams and give Lions the golden run.
Port allowed to host home finals. Lions will get an easy ride though. Vic clubs get to chose where they want to play home finals - Gabba or Gold Coast.
AFL media cocky down here. Worried about ticket scalpers given Qld legislation not as strong as Victoria on this.

The fact PVL has found $80 million worth of unnecessary spending was going on under Greenberg's reign means the NRL had the funds to expand into Perth and add Brisbane 2 years ago. I get the feeling the 16 clubs are against expansion because they don't want to share the limited talent that's available and are the reason it hasn't happened.

PVL is doing his best in a chaotic environment. Trying to get things done with clubs wanting no new teams, Ch9 wanting a Brisbane team and Foxtel probably against it as News Ltd own the Donkeys is almost impossible. Signing Foxtel up until 2027 was a masterstroke. It will make it easier to get Brisbane 2 over the line. PVL can now go to Ch9 and say, "You want Brisbane 2? Pay up and they're in. The power is now in your court."

This worries me to be honest. The clubs (and Gould) are the ones that bitch about waste of money at NRL admin level and the things they would consider a waste of money would be long term vision type stuff like the Digital and expansion etc.
The clubs want all the money to go to them even though they know they have wasted it all and they can't run their clubs in a professional way. They spend it all on short term win at all costs type stuff like additional coaching staff etc.

Its actually $50mill they are looking to slash. That is a sht load of money when you consider NRLHQ doesnt have that many staff.
Digital? Integrity Unit (happened already), Exec positions (happened), grassroots? getting corporate sponsors? media dept? development officers? ref costs (happened). When you actually break down the much fabled $180mill cost in the financials there doesnt look a huge area to cut that isnt set up to be revenue generating or development funding. Be interesting to see next years annual report.
Maybe they should give the clubs all the money and let them run the game like SL? I'm sure it would work out ok.

Yeah, because employing coaches is not going to make your team and junior development better.

Probably more to do wit multi million $ pay outs to sacked coaches?
FC cap is being cut, if it actually exists. Souths must be paying their FC cap on retired players!

They make the game overall worse (especially defensive/wrestle coaches) and it is a waste of money over all. The NRL should ban the spending of any money on wrestling coaches. Each club should only be allowed to have 2 coaches.
I would rather the games money be spent on digital than wrestling coaches.

How embarrassing. Do you know how much commentary AFL made about Origin being played in Perth and Adelaide and Melbourne? None at all. He is feeding the media what they want which will ultimately just give AFL more column inches. AFL announce GF in Brisbane and with an hour Vlandys is being defensive. Makes us look weak which is exactly what the AFL want.

You should try to say something good about him. Admit it is great that he is trying to get rid of the wrestle.

It’s a little known fact that half the teams will miss the finals every year.

Not everyone will be successful all the time. The winning formula is difficult to capture.

Did you know that only one team out of sixteen wins the premiership each year?

Should a club just continue to suck? Or should they identity a problem early and move on if there’s a good likelihood they’ll improve? It’s a judgement call but unfortunately sometimes this is just the cost of doing business.

It seems like poor business savvy to me to just see a problem and fail to address it.

I don’t think it should been seen as a shock that a couple of clubs choose this route each season.

Offering an untested coach a 5+1 year contract, then after 1.5 year deciding they dont want him anymore seems pretty incompetent business wouldn't you suggest? Any club that signs a coach for more than 2+1 is taking a huge risk that could cost them millions.
