Too late for that, he’s signed up us up to a 7 year deal with them which he continues to refuse to divulge the details of.
I thought the combined deal between Channel 9 and News Limited was announced to be within the region of $2 Billion?

The other thing I would like to ask is whether or not V'landys is subject to the wrath of the integrity unit given what is going on with the treatment of retired race horses in NSW and his supposed knowledge? V'landys seems big on behaviour within the game and surely any instances of him having knowledge of animal cruelty would surely make his position untenable.

that was a media guess, vlandys refuses to tell us how much it was for or what the new 5 year deal contains in terms of what fox have got for their money. Even worse than refusing to tell us he changed the way the nrl reports it’s annual financial statement so you can’t see what media revenue is worth to the nrl. It’s almost like he has something to hide?

re the rest, you dont put someone who runs a shady business like horse racing in charge if you are concerned about catching fleas.

Good on you for questioning V'landys. I thought the bloke had a smell about him even before he came to the NRL. It seems like everyone is waxing lyrical about the guy just because he got the game restarted during Covid when in reality he did not have much of a choice and probably contributed very little behind the scenes to this initiative. I believe subject matter experts and the people who handle logistics at the NRL deserve the most credit.

but but he said aFL is BoRInG, dat means hE iS SmRT

he is probably underselling the rights to News (it's happening again) even when NRL consistently rates higher than AFL on fox. Meaning that He, News and AFL are all complicit in ripping off Rugba League.

V Landys needs to dream bigger. He treats the NRL like it has an inferiority complex compared to AFL. NRL is the better game and more watched esp on the big population areas like the Eastern Seaboard.

V Landys should storm into the Fox offices and demand an extra 20% on the NRL broadcast rights.

We have undersold the tv deal and our teams are suffering accordingly esp Sydney ones.

It is getting to the stage where it is a big enough sample size to judge the product...

Also getting to SOO where what rules are used in club land get thrown out the window

He's not expanding it, he's consolidating it. There's a big difference!
Correct! Expanding the game would constitute bringing a franchise to a non-nrl market, such as Perth or Adelaide. All V'landys is doing is taking the easy option by bringing in another team from Brisbane - a region where rugby league is extremely popular. I don't get why he does not look at Perth as an option. Every time a game is played there it seems to bring capacity crowds. Hence, the interest is there!

Had to laugh at his “I’m a can do man” comments this evening. Yeh Pete can do until it comes to growing the game then it all becomes a bit too hard.

Perth, at best is worth a 2million investment, so some kind of lower grade action. . Why throw away 10 mill on Perth, better uses for that kind of money!

Brisbane 2 is still expanding. You can still expand in the same market.
E.g. if you run a successful pizza shop and you open another one around the corner, or in next next suburb, that is still expansion, even if it cuts into your first store’s business. You don’t necessarily have to open on the other side to be expanding. It is simply a safer, more predictable form of expansion.

not if the same customers now shop in both shops rather than new customers coming along.

Yes but if they watch both on TV, that is increasing the value of broadcast rights.
Regarding attendance, do you really think that none of the three bids will attract any new people who don’t currently go to Broncos games? Second AFL teams in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney saw total attendances for up by an average of more than 50%.

Firehawks could be the most important team in the NRL, alongside Sydney Roosters, as they would be based right near an AwFuL club. If they can take a few thousand supporters away from the Lions then that will be a huge kick in the guts for AwFuL.
