Thought Abdo came across well on nrl360. First decent length interview without Vlandys next to him I’ve seen. Said the same as pretty much every ceo before him but comes across as confident and articulate. Hopefully he gets a decent run and isn’t booted in the argey bargey of the next tv deal.

For the record the plan is to cut $50mill in running costs. He avoided the question on how they planned to go about it.

I’m happy to give him a decent go but it was a pretty soft interview.

Sounded alright but it's just buzzwords until they actually make some changes.

He avoided the question on how costs will be cut?? He didn't give any indication at all? None?

no, Ikin opened with the question “how are you going to cut $80million?” and he answered “glad you asked that it is actually $50million per year”, then went on to talk about Covid and loss of revenue, mentioned briefly merging of some roles and depts.

V’landys would love it if the cats win tmrw night, and that the first all Victorian grand final in 10 years, will be played in Brisbane.
I'm not religious but I mite say a prayer for this .
I suspect that the umpies or whatever they're called will do everything in their power to get the kitty Kats home .
Geebung will havta more than out fumble the opposition ..
What AFL house wants( clearly the kitty Kats in the GF) they usually get .

Will be interesting to see if it sells out. Around 8k corporate/series tickets were snapped up a few weeks ago, but the AFL has stuck with their usual ticket prices and allocation of tickets hoping that Brisbane and Port made it. There are around 2k cat 4 tickets at $185, but can they sell 25k tickets for $350+ (there are no child or family tickets either, just adult and concession $298)? I don’t reckon.
Storm v Penrith not a huge crowd puller either, but should sell out the remainder of 40k pretty quickly.

The ARLC invited AwFuL into Brisbane by only having one team in the world's second largest RL city. PVL seems to be the only bloke at HQ who realises this and is trying to do something about it.

If there were 3 teams here then there wouldn't have been so much focus on the Broncos' woes. It's understandable that some Queenslaners, at least the ones who don't have a bias against fumbleball, adopted the Lions when the Broncos were getting 50 points put on them every few weeks while scoring none of their own. Whether we like to admit it or not, Brisbane is the little brother of Sydney in every sense of the word, so people up here view sport as a means of getting one over big brother. It's a pride thing. If the Broncos aren't doing that but the Lions are, then people who view everything as Queensland vs NSW / Bris vs Syd will jump on that bandwagon. They still prefer RL, but they will ease the hurt of losing at their preferred game by focusing on one that is beating big brother.

The only way I can see this mentality dying off is if local tribalism is reintroduced into Brisbane. Have 3 or 4 teams in Brisbane by 2050 and people will end up not giving a shit about 'big brother' Sydney, at NRL level that is, because they're too busy trying to get one over their local rival.

Make the announcement that the 2020s will be about Bris 2, 30s Bris 3 and 40s Bris 4 and it will sow the seeds of tribalism, setting back AwFuL's inroads by 30 years.
