Hey handy I love it how the donkeys keep saying cobbo may not fit in the salary cap who are they kidding im sure you remember the donkeys had no cap when they were winning premierships.i rate the donkeys the rorters and the purple puke with an invisible salary cap.now that bennett bought 8 players to the fins from the donkeys they will buy a few more international players from elsewhere to get back in the top 4 again, well they just got hunt he's an international standard player thats how these 3 sombrero clubs operate with no cap.

A concerning signing for Sths,IMO, is the Head of Performance coach Trent "Peptides " ELKIN--he was in the peptides saga at the Sharks up to his eyeballs & was told at the time he'd never coach in the NRL again--from all reports he is a nasty character even telling a female photographer to "Get f---ed."
He must be a bennet appointee so bennet must have some faith, and if he is a mongrel, good, the players need someone biting their heels

exactly the right type of man we need.

a guy who is willing to tell people as is. Exactly what the boys need a rocket up there asses.

a squad breaming with

Mitchell
Wighton
Cody
Arrow
Koolamatangi

they can sometimes get carried away and think there shit dont stink. Trent will tell em straight.

on a side note.

Looks like they ramping up training first 2 weeks was the most piss poor training ive seen in my life from a first grade nrl team!!!

It’s a long pre season. Maybe they ripping into the gym and weights and that side of it more so than catching and passing footballs.

From Paul Crawley he and Wayne are close too so it might have legs

BENNETT’S BIG-NAME SIGNING HITLIST

Wayne Bennett officially returns to South Sydney on Monday and at the top of the priority list will be what to do with the money freed up by Lachlan Ilias’ move to the Dragons.

It’s no secret the injury Cam Murray picked up playing for Australia at the Pacific Nations has only intensified the Rabbitohs’ urgency to add to their forwards stocks.

And they’d love to bring in a player to add a bit more mongrel to their pack, which has been missing ever since Sam Burgess’ retirement.

It remains to be seen if the Rabbitohs will also apply for a salary cap relief to help cover the loss of Murray, who is expected to be sidelined for at least the first two months of the season.

The two names that are getting mentioned are Matt Lodge and Brandon Smith, while unwanted Tiger John Bateman is the other big-name forward still looking for a new home.

All three would bring much-needed aggression to the Rabbitohs.

While Smith would be ideal if the Roosters were to consider releasing him from the final year of his deal, the issue for the Rabbitohs is that the star Kiwi will be sitting out half the season as he recovers from knee surgery.

That’s probably why Souths couldn’t afford to take Smith on, which makes Lodge the most likely - although it still wouldn’t shock me to see Bateman end up at the Bunnies, despite all the previous denials.

Wayne knows exactly what the Souths squad needs. He used to call them "social loafers" which means there were players who were happy to do less because they expected others would do the work. He would also know Elkin's past and wouldn't have him anywhere near the joint if he wasn't certain that Elkin was a reformed man on the peptide front. Not every murderer keeps killing when they get out of prison. Some do get rehabilitated.

Wayne has brought Elkin in to observe and then correct the loafing going on in the squad. We should expect the boys to cop a flogging over summer and to most especially have an attitude correction by the time the season starts.

As for recruits, Bateman is way too pricey and hasn't done anything since his first couple of seasons with Canberra which was ages ago. The game has moved on and if we are to look for another edge man, it should be a big mobile type like Haumole or Katoa.

Brandon Smith? I think we wait until he's fit around mid-season and then his price will be less than half of a full year so we could then make him an offer. But not now. We'd be paying more while he sits things out. No club should want to do that. Wait and see with him.

And Lodge - is affordable and likely. Not sure who else is available as far as big middles are concerned. I expect Wayne will bring him on board shortly.

No one's mentioned Valynce Te Whare by the way. Big outside back who could well become a sensation as an edge forward - if he can stay fit. Wayne gave him his debut in 2023 but didn't pick him in 1st grade at all this past season, probably due to the Dolphins purchasing Herbie Farnworth who has become just about the premier centre in the game, or close to it, and also Averillo.

Anyhow, now someone has mentioned him. Me. :)

l would not touch Bateman. He is a goon.
Better off developing young forwards such as Duncan and Fletcher.
Burt needs Duncan to put some muscle - based weight on. A few months weightlifting 4-5 days/week is just what he needs. Sans Murray, Duncan needs to step up and become the regular starter. He has served an apprenticeship of sorts, now he needs to show he can be relied upon starting at 13.

Hound of Dracula = The Movie "Zoltan". Vicious film, not for dog lovers as Zoltan meets a very grisly, ultra sticky end after transforming various standard lovable pets, into blood thirsty terrors.

I think Illias has something and am afraid of the Keary effect

they do arse all at south’s then go to another team and put us to the sword
Brad, to be honest, Ilias is NOT in the same boat as Keary. He simply does not have the speed, aggressive intent with ball, cadence and awareness that Keary displayed when Maguire first introduced him to A Grade. Ilias may do well at St George, but he will never be a standout like Keary was for 5-6 seasons.
