Cowboys fans on LU are doing a great job at biting their tongues and/or being good sports for the most part, although it's clear and obvious there is salt. A quick glance at the recruitment thread on the Cowboys Stampede reveals the true feelings up north, though. The butthurt is very intense. Props to butch for being a voice of reason over there. Many of your compatriots willing to throw the kid under the bus or just bitch about our club in frustration.

To be honest I have no love for the Cowboys, the way they have cried and whinged in the past about things like the Snowden "shoulder charge" and NSW conspiracies makes it hard for me to feel anything other than schadenfreude.

No mention of the wearing "Rise for Alex" whilst snapping necks...........

No idea what you're talking about, but it's clear you're upset and lashing out a bit.
It's a joke mate.

Sorry I didn't realise you weren't a Knights fan.

There was a huge furore after the Cowboys Knights game in 2015.

I'm not really trying to dig the knife in, either. This is the first bit of (maybe) good news we've had in God knows how long, and many seem intent on pissing on our parade. Just a shitty spot to be in as a supporter.

I've missed something here mate.

How is it that this leaking is public knowledge???

Not sure what your actual question is here?

The Knights have been extremely quiet about this signing and Ponga's party have been denying it.

But Paul Green couldn't wait to come out and spill the beans and dissect it publicly. The same reporter and Cowboys insider the Cowboys leaked the money details to then proceeds to pen a string of articles suiting the Cowboys on the back of it.

You can say the CM are not affiliated with the Cowboys all you want, but the Cowboys gave them all the ammo they need to do their bidding for them and it's been done.

I personally think it's great for the game.

A strong Newcastle side can only be a positive for Rugby League.

Word is he's about to reneg and re-sign with cowboys just sorting out the final details

You couldn't blame the kid. He's already under immense pressure in the media. Would be much easier to take a little less and stay with the Cowboys. It's a win/win for him. They'll definitely be coughing up more than they previously offered. All part of the negotiating process.

Those extra dollars they will now have to pay him will have an effect on others and place further cap pressure on NQLD.

Go back a year and it was Newcastle in the exact same situation that the Cowboys find themselves in now. Canberra threw big money at Tapine, Newcastle wanted to retain him but were unable/unwilling to match the $500,000 price tag. The majority of Knights fans were happy for Tapine to rot in NSW Cup for the entire season, even though he would have easily been in our strongest side.

Personally, as a Newcastle supporter, I hope Ponga stays at the Cowboys in 2017, develops as a fullback in the Queensland Cup and fills in occasionally for first grade to cover injuries/suspensions/rep duties. I think that would be far more beneficial to Ponga and our club in the long term compared to him getting smashed week in week out for us in 2017.

I also think that Green has been smarter than Brown was. Brown got the RLPA offside by declaring that Tapine won't see a minute of first grade. Green has said that Ponga will be selected if he is good enough. It's going to be harder for Ponga to get an early release.

The obsessive smear campaign from the CM is f**king weird, but we don't really know whether it's come from the Cowboys or not. Would make sense if it did but on the other hand it wouldn't surprise me if they've just made up most of this shit themselves either. It's not the first time they've gone on a weird witch hunt against a NSW club when they feel it's been at the expense of a Qld one. Objectivity isn't a strength of theirs.

To be honest I feel like my club has finally done something right if the Qld gutter rag has gone after them.

Interested to know where Rhynos "word" is coming from. Can't find any mention on the Stampede, social media or LU to that effect.

It isn't a win/win for him if he wants to be a fullback any time in the next few years.

You don't know what is being promised if in fact the Cows have suddenly had a change of heart and 'found' a few extra hundred thousand a season.

To be honest, credit to the kids fortitude if he actually sticks with the deal. Must be immense pressure internally and externally up there for him to backflip.

I had to laugh this morning when a very unlikely ally in Darius Boyd said he'd fit in well with our young squad if he comes. Cheers Darbs, more than you did for us while playing.

It could all be fiction but the Cows would be crazy not to do everything possible to convince him to stay in the 10 day cooling off period.

And they would be, including proposing a much bigger offer.

Now, if he does stay in NQLD and gets a much bigger offer than initially receiving from the Cows I'm sure the media will be jumping all over him and printing articles outlining the effect it is going to have on all the clubs and the jealousy it will create among the Cowboys players. Words like "livid' and 'backlash" will be front and centre.

Yes/No?
