Ramifications of the Kalyn Ponga deal

You don't know what is being promised if in fact the Cows have suddenly had a change of heart and 'found' a few extra hundred thousand a season.

A change of heart will either require the Cowboys to suddenly want to move Coote on, even though he just re-signed for a further two years, or they'll be happy to fork out huge money for Ponga to sit out on the wing.

Interested to know where Rhynos "word" is coming from. Can't find any mention on the Stampede, social media or LU to that effect.

I hate using this word but "troll" was coined for Rhyno. I don't doubt it could be true but that would purely be coincidence if it is.

Or an arrangement such as the Minichello/Tuivasa-Sheck one would be the best outcome for all parties.

Coote was bloody horrible late in the season.

Coote is still only 26- very different to Minichello who was clearly at the end of his career and a succession plan was needed by the Roosters. Coote is also very vanilla- it doesn't matter how well he plays, he will never have the hype, and hence dollar value, that Ponga currently does. I just can't see the Cowboys wanting to get anywhere near the contract that Newcastle are offering.

As for Coote's form, take away the two games from the 2016 finals series and he has been pretty outstanding over the last couple of seasons.

Just read the shit Colman wrote in the CM. It's had to know where to start. I mean, it's one thing to make it into Qld thing and ramp up the bias accordingly, but to suggest NRL clubs will be lining up to kick the NRL bosses over this has to be one of the most laughable things ever printed. As others have said, no mention of Hayne signing for an NRL owned club when the rules didn't even allow for it, but apparently a kid who may not even make it to 50 first grade games signing for the Knights is turning the game on its head and it's all unfair. It even goes as far as to suggest it undermines the develpment of the new stadium in Townsville! What the f**k is this union apologist Murdoch arselicker on? Even Cowboys fans and Qlders in general should be embarrassed by this crap.

Not sure what your actual question is here?

The Knights have been extremely quiet about this signing and Ponga's party have been denying it.

But Paul Green couldn't wait to come out and spill the beans and dissect it publicly. The same reporter and Cowboys insider the Cowboys leaked the money details to then proceeds to pen a string of articles suiting the Cowboys on the back of it.

You can say the CM are not affiliated with the Cowboys all you want, but the Cowboys gave them all the ammo they need to do their bidding for them and it's been done.

Jesus mate lay off the pipe it's making you paranoid

All good points. But if they really want Ponga they will need to accommodate him. A succession plan will be necessary as I wouldn't think Coote will get another gig in NQLD after his current deal expires.

For mine, Coote's form was declining almost 2 months before the finals. However, he was in career best the preceding year.

Coote was arguably the best player on the field against the Kiwis last week, playing alongside reserve grade standard players and helping them to a shock result...maybe he's the one who should go to Newcastle.

lol, it's because we're being attacked in the media. We're not even used to getting a mention in the paper, let alone attacked. Been that long since we did anything relevant. Personally, I take the attacks in the media as a good sign... It'll be a much better sign once the cooling off period is over. Clearly some feathers have been ruffled up north, and that's only a positive thing for mine.
But "oh we're being attacked, they're saying nasty things" yet you mention feathers being rustled up North, I had no idea that skin was that thin in the Hunter.

We've heard from Badel and Colman, now let's heard from a news ltd journo who actually has a clue:

Can you type that out again with it making sense please?

Yeah but Lachlan Coote turned down a bigger offer from the Roosters to stay with the Cowboys. It would be a bit hypocritical of the Cowboys to expect loyalty from the players if their not willing to give the same in return.

The paranoia on display from Johns Magic in this thread is hilarious.

Most Cowboys fans have been classier than some Knights fans throughout this.

You signed a good player, be happy.

What's paranoid about what he's saying? It's obvious the CM is pressuring the shit out of Ponga publicly to backflip, are they just doing it for fun? There's a clear and obvious mandate and bias there, it's not paranoid to suggest that mandate has come from one of the only logical places it could come from. It might be wrong, there's scope for discussion there if you want to be naive or intentionally obtuse, but it's not really paranoid.

Ok say you're right

Who benifits most if he backflips ?

The cowboys who can't afford to keep him or Brisbane who have been chasing him like a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck ?

The articles all say how much better off he is staying at the Cowboys under Thurston's tutelage. The Colman article talks about how ripped off the Cowboys have been. Its all been about him staying at the Cowboys.

Whether you think the CM is speaking for the Cowboys or not, the Cowboys leaking the salary details to the media is highly unprofessional at best.
