i wonder how long souths have walker signed for he is a big talent. blake had one of his bad games tonight, found out in defence particularly. carty with a great game, same can be said for merrin, cleary and mansour. cant believe we almost blew that

Agree. Not sure we take advantage of all of our bench players and give the minutes they deserve.

Akaoula would be better value than Matagi from what I have seen.

Agreed. Matagi has been very disappointing the last 6 weeks. His defense was pretty ordinary last night...especially for that first try. Latu gets blame also but he has done more than enough to get BOTD.

Very early to call it but I think Cleary is the one we have been waiing for since Gower

Cleary just looks ridiculously composed and tough, he gets belted and two tackles later is taking the line on. The first try we scored is a perfect example of what I meant when I said a good half has to be willing to take a hit. Run that same exact set play with Sowie in his current and form and it probably doesn't open up like that because Sowie would pass it a metre before the line instead straightening and going right to the line and really committing that extra defender. He is already a much better halfback than Sowie if he can maintain this form.

Merrin was amazing but that was a step or two up from his usual performance with us so far.

Everyone sees the game differently but I thought Blakes defence was superb. Can't remember a time Inglis beat him and Inglis got plenty of ball and opportunity last night. He just made 2 or 3 silly mistakes with the ball.

Awful performance for the most part. But some great individual performances in there. Cleary has just been amazing... a year ago he was only making his Under 20s debut. Now hes proving hes a quality first grader. Most impressive is doing it behind a pack that's not dominating and without an experienced halves partner

Mansour impressed me under the high ball. Normally if he was tested like that he would make a heap of errors.

Blake randomly had 2015 form and we have to hope thats the last of it. Those were horrible carries. Latu and Matagi are seriously soft at times. That first try was shocking.

I agree that he defended well he is good at that. But like everyone has said its just those mistakes in his game that can be so frustrating.

Moylan was playing like a half for most of last night getting into first receiver regularly etc but as Cleary and possibly TMM develop as halves a Moylan type FB becomes less valuable to us. It's going to be interesting to see how it goes over the next season or two.

If TMM comes back early he can go to the bench and relieve Wallace at hooker.

Wallace's first half was the worst he's played at hooker for us, but second was fine and he was very good defensively all game.

I thought that until i watched the game again this morning. Wallace butchered 2 overlaps that would have lead to tries in the second half. His whole game was awful

Moylan to 5/8 may happen at some stage but he looked good last night especially in attack, he adds another threat to the backline which is giving the Cartwright and Cleary combo more room to move.

There is going to be amazing depth to the team next year, but I really like to leave players where they are when in form. Moylan, Cleary, Cartwright and peachy are all playing excellent football where they are and shouldn't be moved, even if we have good players playing in reserve grade to accomodate it.
The reserve players have to demand to be picked with good form, not rely on reputation or name, something Segs, Taylor and maybe soward didn't acheive.
Maybe Hardaker demands to be picked but either way next year there are going to be some world class backs in reserve grade. Mansour, peachy, whare, DWZ, Blake hiku will be fighting it out for 4 spots, if Moylan moves TMM may not get a run. It's a good problem to have.
Anyone know if TMM has played any hooker?

Griffin might be a bit slower than id like but he normally gets there. Cleary goalkicking was a no brainer

If we can find a good FB in our squad or juniors then I think we put Moylan in the 6 and TMM on the bench and let the best one get the spot. They have kind of invested in Moylan though and the thought of a Cleary/Martin combo is pretty exciting so they might just try that out first.

We really need to fix the defence. I still think the errors will improve with experience for our younger players and the combinations get used to each other but the defence just isn't getting better. There's enough gifted footy players in this team to put points on now that we are getting something extra from iur halves. Moylan, Carty and Cleary are already combining nicely to set up tries so it will be good to see that combo grow but defensively we have real issues. If only Latu could tackle he would almost be the perfect middle forward for the modern game, I can't believe how skilled and smart he is for a young forward.
