Rd1 2024: 530pm Parra v Dogs GAME DAY THREAD @ Commbank Stadium (sold out) March 9th

Dogs are the worst assembled team I have ever seen. Superstars in positions but negated by absolute duds in positions that are needed to cater for the superstars....
The crazy part is that they have had unbalanced squads for the better part of a decade now, they have turned over a ridiculous amount of players, and yet they still have the same issues time and again.

The Dogs were gallant to be honest given the circumstances of how the game went.

The few chances we gave the Dogs, we ended up folding pretty easily. To be honest the Dogs embarrassed us by how easy they scored their tries with few opportunities, and the many chances we had and failed to deliver too many times.

Outside of that we had plenty of possession and field possession, but with Moses hampered we offered sweet f**k all really.

Even with that the Dogs shouldn't have got anywhere near us.

A win is a win in Round 1...time to take the 2 points and move on.

Moses injury is going to be a concern going forward. We've clearly got f**k all without him and unless we get the same sort of possession and field position as we did in this game, then we'll struggle.
I thought the big spending Bulldogs were brave, almost as brave as the Roosters can be.

Good to see BA change up the bench rotation. The old dog might be learning new tricks.

Attack looked disjointed but wasn’t helped by Moses injury or the way the ruck and 10m were refereed

Not sold on Lussick yet but he did some good things. Definitely happy we got rid of Greed. He’ll be lucky to see out his contract at the dogs

We’re one elite outside back away from being contenders. Lock the Penisini/Russel combo in. We need to figure out the other side

I genuinely feel sorry if there are real Eels supporters out there who find it hard to enjoy a win. Are there things to improve on? Fk me, of course, it’s round one. But as it stands we are on top of the table and that’ll do me. Up Parra.

Mate, I'm happy with the win, no doubt.
What I'm not happy with is that we didn't look any better than we have for a decade. Same old BA coached team.
With the dominance of possession and our completion rate, we should have smashed them. Yet we didn't.

Yes, it is only round one. Benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Good win, despite the whining here about not putting on a score with the possession we had, we only had that possession because we earned it, played with control, didn't push dumb passes, and still with our "shit" attack managed four tries.

Goal line defence is still a worry, but general defence was very good, hit hard, stuck, limited their meters. They never once looked dangerous coming out of their own end. Again easy to ignore that that pressure was a big reason why possession was so lopsided.

Anyways, great to start with a win, 2 points in the bag and we're on our way to being March Premiers!

Job done. Can't ask for much more in Rnd 1. Well you can, but expecting prefection with the 7 on one leg and the game played in Darwin heat ?

My comment wasn’t aimed at yourself or anyone in specific. Just read through here and Twitter etc.

I don’t mind us strangling teams out of a game. I also think we were well on our way to racking up a good score when Russell’s try was denied.

But I tell you what, we copped the Dogs when they’re absolutely up for it and still dispatched them pretty easily. Plenty of positives to take from it. Up Parra!

I always thought Sean Russell would cement his place in the team. Last year was never going to be a true reflection of his potential given he had an injury-interrupted off season coupled with the fact of it being his first full season in first grade. He reminds me of a Luke Burt, but with a bit more skill.

I thought the Lussick/Hands change should have happened earlier, but not a bad result all around for the first hit out of the season. My main concern is it doesn't seem our attack has really improved from previous seasons - it's largely the same old structures and gameplan.

Rather than just give your post a 'like' I've actually taken the time to post that I agree with your assessment.
