He missed a crucial tackle during a break and made an error by giving away a seven tackle set. He’s going to be judged more harshly if he makes errors unless he contributes more in attack.
And his so called ‘much better kicking game’ resulted in 4 kicks for 74m, one of which was an abysmal kick to no one that resulted in a 7 tackle kick. The others were bombs that didn’t threaten at all. His kicking game is bog average.

And his kicking game is his strength. That and being the coaches son.

Back from the game.
We won. We got 2 points. Lots and lots of improvement.
Next week I would be playing Opacic left centre and Waqa wing.
Other left field option would be Perham on the wing.
The bench will be tough to pick.
Nrown and Nuikore in. For mine Stone stays. So Kaufusi, Makatoa, Arthur and Cartwright compete for 1 spot.
Personally I'd go Cartwright

Seriously JA wouldn't play first grade if his Dad wasnt coach.

How would Dylan Brown be feeling hoping for a breakout year and get shafted to the centres.

I spoke to a few fans after the game and all are perplexed and angry that JA is on the bench.

It will be the deathknell for BA.
It’s a ridiculous call, reeks of nepotism.

Even more embarrassing when the coach dribbles shit like its harder for poor Jakey being the coaches son.

I was hoping for a lot better from JA but that was a disappointment. Lumbering isn't usually a word you'd use to describe a half but it might apply here. He just looked slow. And hesitant. Maybe trying to play to instructions but I didn't see anything to excite me. Still, one game and he's 19. But probably way too soon.

I like you all have massive problems with Jake in the side. I think we can all see he's a mile off being a first grade half and I don't claim to be the worlds best judge of up and coming halves but to me he looks like its doubtful he has the intangibles of a first grade quality half. Everything looks a little difficult for him and unnatural. That being said he's now played more first grade games than Cup games so is he really being given the best development?

We all know he's not a utility. Any injury barring Moses or D Brown causes a complete reshuffle to the side.

BUT perhaps my biggest problem with him being selected is hes not a running 5/8. Our structure is based around having Moses and Gutho 1a and 1b in the playmaking department. Mahoney is next cab off the rank and its given a chance to work because D Brown doesnt need the ball 30 times to be effective and can run and support. Jake isn't that. He comes on a and everyone loses their role and the team is completely out of sync. It is a garbage selection and not based on what is best for the team. Emotional crying father Brad has convinced himself it can work but its only been given a chance to work because of his close attachment to the situation.

Aside from not being good enough to be on an NRL field at this stage of his career, the complete disruption he causes to our structure playing anywhere in the side is a disgrace.

I genuinely feel for young Arthur. He’s obviously very talented, but he’s not played regular football for two years because of the cancellations of the NSW Cup competitions. So he’s learning on the job to be a first grader, when he would undoubtedly have come along more if he’d have had the opportunity to be playing consistent reserve grade.

Having said that, he looks like he seems to have less time when he has the ball than most (Luke Kelly was the one who always seemed like he never had enough time to make a decision, I think Tom Dearden looks a bit like that too). He would be so much better off playing consistently in reserves, because at least it’ll give him the opportunity to develop without being expected to do so in the most difficult environment possible.

During the week. He played in our reserve grade side yesterday.

And we didn't buy him per se.... We gave the Tigers a 1988 Holden Camira and a 3 year subscription to Street Machine magazine to take him off their hands....
I’m a Street Machine subscriber!

Jake has lots of potential and im ok for him to come on IF selected and needed but to slot in and not overplay his hand. Today he came on and started taking over. At one stage Mahoney pushed him aside and told him where to go and stand.
Moses should not be playing 2nd fiddle to him.
Cartwright for mine is a better option and provides better balance as he can play in the fwds and as a 6 or centre worst case scenario.
Jake plays 6 or 7 but too much disruption to the side...Dylan Brown literally went missing...

Matterson can fill in at centre if need be. He did it numerous times during the Roosters premiership run. The last thing you want to due is shuffle your spine. Unless you desperately want your son on the field.
But Jakey trained really really hard!!!

I’d be fine with that as well. Just seems like there were better options available than bringing on a 19 year old who is clearly not ready.

So I guess the consensus is that you’d prefer stone over jake as a “utility” . It’s an interesting conversation

Why not Matterson to five eighth with Brown moving to the centres and bringing on an extra forward like Brown/Cartwright?
I would prefer not to disrupt our halves full stop. Russell got injured, BA shifted his starting five-eighth to make room for a bloke who is an inferior half/player which in turn meant our specialist centre moved out of position. And we didn't score another try from that moment on.
